# Muscles of the Thorax, Abdomen, Pectoral Girdle, Shoulder ## Definitions **Prime Mover/Agonist:** Muscle bringing about the desired action. **Antagonist:** Muscle with an action opposite to the prime mover. **Diaphragm:** Key muscle of inspiration, dome-shaped, separates the abdominal and thoracic cavities. **Serratus Posterior Superior:** Thin, quadrilateral muscle in the upper back. **Intersections of Tendon:** Divides the rectus abdominis. **Linea Alba:** Fibrous band of tissue, "centerline" stabilizer of core. **Transversus Abdominis:** Deepest of the 4 abdominal muscles – Corset muscle. **Erector Spinae Muscles:** Group of muscles along the spine, crucial for maintaining posture and supporting the spine during movement. **Rotators:** Spinal column extensors and rotators. **Interspinales:** Pass along the spinous processes. **Clavicle:** S-shaped bone with convex and concave curves. **Scapula:** Large, flattened triangular bone. **Acromion Process:** Enlarged projection, forms the point of the shoulder. **Platysma:** Broad, sheet-like muscle that controls facial expression. **Deltoid:** Prominent muscle, fleshy mass of the shoulder / thick muscle. **Teres Minor:** Slim, narrow muscle in the rotator cuff. **Pectoralis Minor:** Thin, flat muscle, "fan shape" extrinsic shoulder muscle. **Labrum (of the shoulder):** Found within the glenoid socket. **Bursitis:** Inflammation of the bursa sac. ## Articulations 1. **Sternal End of the clavicle**: Sternum 2. **Acromial End of the clavicle**: Acromion process 3. **Acromion Process**: Clavicle @acromioclavicular joint 4. **Glenoid Fossa**: Head of humerus
