ISLAM, IMAN, IHSAN T P A D H A H R A N , 1 1 J A N U A R Y 2 0 2 5 B Y F A R I D I S O F Y A N  DEFINITION OF ISLAM FROM UMAR RADHIALLAHUANHU HE SAID: When we were sitting next to the Messenger of Allah (‫ ) صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم‬one day suddenly a man came. He was wearing very white clothes and has very black hair. We did not see any traces of his long journey and none of us knew him. Until then he sat in front of the Prophet then put his knees to his knees Rasulullah (‫ )صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم‬and placed the palms of his hands on his lap and said: "O Muhammad, tell me about Islam?“ So, Rasulullah ( ‫صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم‬ َ ) said, "Islam is for you to say shahadat lâ ilâha illâllâh and muhammadur rasûlûllâh, upholding prayers, paying zakat, fasting in Ramadan, and making the pilgrimage to Baitullah if you are able to follow the path.“ The man said, “You are right.” We were surprised at him, he was the one who asked and corrected it at the same time.  THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM 1. The Shahada (Declaration ُ ‫َﻻ إِ ٰلهَ إِ ﱠﻻ ﷲ ُم َح ﱠم ٌد َر‬ ‫سو ُل ﷲ‬ of Faith) The belief that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad (‫ ) صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم‬is His messenger 2. Salah Praying five times a day 3. Zakat Making annual charitable donation to help the poor 4. Sawm Fasting during the month of Ramadhan 5. Hajj Attending the pilgrimage to Mecca once in your lifetime  DEFINITION OF IMAN FROM UMAR RADHIALLAHUANHU HE SAID: The man said again, "Tell me about faith!“ He ‫صلى ﷲ عليه وسلم‬ َ answered, "You believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and you believe in good and bad decree (destiny).“ The man said, “You are right.”  1. Belief in Allah Belief in the existence of Allah. Belief that Allah alone is the Lord, without any partners. Belief in His servitude. He alone is the One who deserved to be worshipped. Belief in His Names and Atributes. THE SIX 2. Belief in His angels PILLARS OF Aishaa narrated: The Messenger of Allah said, the angels were created from light, the jinn were created from a smokeless flame IMAN of fire. They are noble slaves who worship Allah. The number of angels is a number that cannot be enumerated except by Allah. Amongst them are the bearers of the Throne, the keepers of Paradise, the keepers of Hellfire, the guardians, the recorders, and others. Among them, seventy thousand angels pray daily in al-Bayt al- Maʿmur. When they leave, they never to return to it ever again.  3. Belief in His holy books Belief in that Allah revealed books to His prophets and messengers as a means of guidance for His slaves. The Suhuf (Scriptures) of Ibrahim. The Tawrah (Torah), which was the book that Allah revealed to Musa. The Zabur (Psalms), which was the book that Allah revealed to Dawud. The Injil (Gospel), which was the book that Allah revealed to ʿIsa. THE SIX The Quran, which was the book that Allah revealed to Muhammad for all of mankind. PILLARS OF 4. Belief in His messengers IMAN Belief that Allah sent to every nation a messenger, calling them to workship Allah alone. It is obligatory to have Iman in all the prophets and messengers; whoever disbelieves in even one of them, he has disbelieved in all of them. We are also obliged to follow the Shariʿah of the one who was sent to us, who is their seal and best among them, and who was sent to all of mankind and the entire world Muhammad.  5. Belief in the Day of Judgment The Last Day is The Day of Judgment in which Allah will resurrect all of creation to be held to account and recompense. It was named as such because there is no day after it. The inhabitants of Paradise will reside in it forever, and likewise, the inhabitants of Hellfire will reside in it forever. Everything that Allah and His Messenger have informed us of regarding what will happen on that tremendous day of: THE SIX resurrection, gathering, accountability, the bridge, the scales, Paradise, Hell, etc. PILLARS OF 6. Belief in Divine Decree Al-Qadar IMAN Qadar (predestination) is Allah’s knowledge of everything in its appointed measure and written in the Preserved Tablet (al-Lawh al-Mahfuz). Qadar is Allah’s secret in creation, and no close angel nor sent messenger has access to it. Everything that occurs of good or bad is from Allah’s predestination DEFINITION OF IHSAN FROM UMAR RADHIALLAHUANHU HE SAID: He said again, "Tell me about ihsan!" He answered, “You worship Allah as if you see him. If you cannot see Him, then indeed He sees you.”  A B O U T DAY O F J U D G M E N T FROM UMAR RADHIALLAHUANHU HE SAID: He said again, "Tell me about the Day of Judgment!" He answered, "The one who is asked knows better than the one who asks." He said again, “Tell me about the signs.” He answered, "If a slave woman gives birth to her master, and if you see people who are barefoot, unclothed, poor, and goatherds boasting of each other raising buildings.“ Then the man left. I was silent for a moment then he said, "Hey 'Umar! Do you know who asked that?” I answered, "Allah and His Messenger know better."
