TOTAL MAN CONCEPT (TMC 111) THE TRIUNE NATURE OF MAN OLUWASEGUN J. OMIDIORA LANGUAGES AND GENERAL STUDIES THE MOBILE PHONE ANALOGY HARDWARE – THE BODY OPERATING SYSTEM – THE SOUL PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE – THE SPIRIT MAN: TRIUNE IN NATURE “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one” (1Jn 5:7).  God is a triune being. The triune God made man in His own image. So man must also be a TRIUNE BEING. 1Thes. 5:23 “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly… spirit, soul and body…” Now who is man? MAN IS A SPIRIT, WHO POSSESSES A SOUL AND LIVES IN A BODY.  This constitutes the triune nature of man.  These three parts are distinct in their functions and qualities, yet they are inter-  related. MAN - A SPIRIT BEING God is SPIRIT (Jn 4:24). Thus, man is essentially a SPIRIT BEING. And since that which is born of the spirit is spirit (Jn 3:6) THEN MAN IS A SPIRIT (Jn 1:12-13).  The Spirit of Man  The spirit of man is the real man. It is the part of him that contains God’s life – the spiritual life - (Gen 2:7).  Without the spirit, neither the soul nor the body can function.  The spirit expresses itself through the soul and the body.  It is with the spirit that man connects and relates with God (1Cor 2:14).   THE QUALITIES OF THE SPIRIT MAN  Gal 5:22. They are;  Love (Rom 5:5, 1Cor 13:13).  Joy (Neh 8:10, Isaiah 12:3).  Peace (Jn 14:27, Phil 4:7, Jn 16:33).  Long suffering (Gal 6:9, 2Tim 2:3)  Gentleness (Matt 10:16). Goodness (Ps 33:5, 23:6). Faith (Rom12:3, Heb 11:6, Hab 2:4) Meekness (1Tim 6:11, Ps 22:26) Temperance (Prov 25:28). THE SOUL The soul is comprised of the MIND, the EMOTIONS and the WILL. THE MIND The mind is the seat of man’s intellect. The mind is the central control valve of the human being The spirit cannot relate with the body without an approval from the mind nor can the body relate with the spirit without an approval from the mind. THE EMOTIONS This is the realm of feelings – anger, fear, bitterness, joy, etc THE WILL God has given man a will by which he has the absolute prerogative to make choices (Deut 30:19). THE BODY The body houses the spirit and the soul. It is also referred to as the temple of the Holy Spirit (1Cor 3:16, 1Cor 6:19). The body is the material part of man with which he relates with the physical world through the FIVE SENSES Sight(eyes) Smell (nose) Touch / Feeling (skin) Taste (Tongue) Hearing (ears) When the body dies, it returns to dust where it was taken from (Gen 3:19), to be changed to immortality at rapture (1Thess 4:16-17). MAXIMIZING THE SPIRIT  You can make the most of God talents and endowment.  you can exercise more power in the spirit realm, thereby making great impact on the earth.  HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR SPIRIT  Study (2 Tim 2:15, 1Tim 4:13)  Meditation – this is mental processing of ideas – (Josh1:8, Ps1:3, 1Tim 4:15)  Praying / singing in the spirit (Jude 20)  Praise and Worship (Ps 67)  Fasting – to subdue the flesh – (Isaiah 58, Isaiah 40:31) Walking in love (1Cor 13) Sharing the Word and Testimonies (Prov11:25) Keeping quality company (Prov 13:20) Exercising the spirit to witty (wisdom) inventions – writing, singing etc (2Tim1:6) Quality relationship with God (Dan 11:32). Also, as you make more use of your mind, you are able to produce more and better results.  The same goes for the exercise of the five senses. HOW TO MAXIMIZE THE MIND  Engage the Word of God. The Word of God provides access to the new World to which you now belong (John 1:1, 4, 9).  Study the example of those who got to where you desire to be – through their books etc. (Heb 6:12). Walk with people who can challenge, motivate and stir you up (Prov 13: 20, Prov 27:17) Be spiritually minded (Col 3:1- 2, Rom 8:5-6) Think! Think!! Think!!! Exercise your mind (Ps119:99, 1Tim 4 :15) MAXIMISING YOUR SENSES  You can maximize the senses through discipline;  Your ears (Mk 4:24, John 8:47a, James 1:19)  Your eyes (Prov 4:25, Matt 6:22)  Your hands (Prov 12:24, Eccl 9:10)  Your tongue (Prov 4:24, Prov18:21, Prov24:13)  Your nose (Deut 4:28, Ps115:6) CONCLUSIO N Agood understanding of the interconnectedness of the three parts of your being enables you to maximise your life in order to fulfil your destiny. Jesus is Lord
