The autonomic nervous system is a component of the peripheral nervous system that regulates involuntary physiologic processes including heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, digestion, and sexual arousal. Divisions of autonomic nervous system: 1.Sympathetic nervous system; 2. Parasympathetic nervous system; 3. Enteric nervous system. The origin of the sympathetic nervous system is found within the thoracic and lumbar segments of the spinal cord also known as the thoracolumbar division (T1 to L2,3).
