THIS INFORMATION IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE BY CONSUMERS. Vitamin C + R-Lipoic Acid is a liposomal blend of two potent antioxidants, vitamin C and the bioactive “R” form of lipoic acid, designed to support healthy immune function and detoxification. Each 2 mL serving (4 pumps) provides clinically applicable amounts of these nutrients for broad antioxidant and detoxification effects.* EDUCATION OFFERS BROAD ANTIOXIDANT ACTION Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient that cannot be synthesized by humans and must be obtained through diet or supplementation; it is the fourth most common nutrient deficiency in the United States.1 Vitamin C has multiple critical functions due to its ability to donate electrons. It is a classic and potent antioxidant that acts both directly, by neutralizing peroxyl radicals, and indirectly, by restoring the antioxidant capacity of vitamin E.2 Vitamin C has been shown to effectively scavenge free radicals such as superoxide and singlet oxygen.Vitamin C protects cell membranes against lipid peroxidation by quenching free radicals generated in the aqueous phase, preventing their damaging effects on lipid membranes.3,4 Lipoic acid is a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) both inside and outside of cells.5 It is a support to other familiar antioxidants including glutathione, ubiquinol, and the vitamins C and E.6,7 Lipoic acid has been shown to help regulate the transcription of genes associated with numerous antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways, including the potent antioxidant switch, Nrf2.8 Lipoic acid functions as a mitochondrial antioxidant, playing a critical role in mitochondrial energy metabolism.9 It is particularly effective in offsetting free radical peroxidation of membrane phospholipids and is associated with elevated cell resistance to oxidative challenge.10 SUPPORTS IMMUNE FUNCTION AND DETOXIFICATION Vitamin C supports both the innate and adaptive immune system as well as epithelial barrier function against pathogens. It accumulates in immune cells such as neutrophils, and can enhance many of the body’s immune defenses, including generation of reactive oxygen species and microbial killing. It is utilized to help clear old neutrophils from infected sites as well.11 Vitamin C has also been shown to shorten the duration of the common cold.12 Lipoic acid has been shown to downregulate levels of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1B and IL-6, as well as interferon gamma, IL-4, TGF beta and other cytokines.13,14 Lipoic acid helps to regenerate glutathione by enhancing Nrf2 activity.15,16 By regenerating glutathione, lipoic acid supports both phase I and phase II detoxification.17,18,19 Quicksilver Delivery Systems® improve upon liposomal and emulsification technology with smaller, more stable particles made from the highest-grade ingredients available. In addition to exceptional absorption rates, these tiny liposomal and nanoemulsified particles increase diffusion across mucus membranes, enhance lymphatic circulation of nutrients and support cellular delivery.
