Faculty of Economics’ Internal Regulations Some contents Faculty’s history Official name Faculty’s roles and responsibilities Faculty members How is it organized? The Dean and his/her team How are the Faculty’s representatives elected? Students representativeness 2. Some Faculty’s exam rules Exams have to be set within the official period. Exams of core and compulsory courses (same degree and year) cannot take place on the same day. Date conflicts on the rest of courses: an alternative date will be set up for one of them. A certificate will be required. 2. Some Faculty’s exam rules Which of the exam dates will have to be changed? Two core courses: the one in the upper year. A core vs. an optional course: that of the optional course. Two optional courses in different years: that of the upper year. Two optional courses within the same year: the one with fewer students enrolled in. 2. Some Faculty’s exam rules Exams date change applications have to be sent by the student to the course coordinator. Deadline: 10 days after the official publication of exam dates. 3. UV’S grading policy Grading scheme A 0-10 Scale: 0 to 4.9: fail (suspenso) 5 to 6.9: pass (aprobado) 7 to 8.9: merit (notable) 9 to 10: distinction (sobresaliente) or distinction with honors (sobresaliente matrícula de honor) Distinction with honors can be awarded to students who obtain a grade of 9.0 or higher (a maximum of one out of every twenty students per class group). 3. UV’s grading policy Validated or adapted courses from another university. There must be an equivalence rule. Free-election credits get, if applicable, a grade of Pass (Apto). No specific grade, except in special cases. 3. UV’s grading policy Transcripts and global grades A quantitative weighted average is used for the academic transcripts. The range is from 5 to 10 points. A qualitative weighted average is used for the degree’s global grade. The range is from 1 to 4. Pass = 1 point; merit = 2 points; excellent = 3 points; distinction with honours = 4 points. (Section 4.5 of Annex I of the Royal Decree 1044/2002) 4. Regulations on appealing exam grades Exam reviews Grades have to be published within 14 days after the exam (first call), and 10 days after the exam’s second call. Review announcements: within 5 days after grades publication. Students have the right to ask for a review and check their exams. Reviews take place in the students’ presence. Regulations on appealing exam grades Contesting Students can contest the review by formally appealing to the Dean. Applications have to be formally written and sent within 5 days. A reviewing committee with, at least, 3 teachers and 1 student is formed each year. It’s in charge of all review conflicts. Involved professors and students in a review contest are to be informed about the committee’s composition. 4. Regulations on appealing exam grades Contesting The reviewing committee’s decision has to be published within 20 days after the conflict application. The committee’s decision cannot worsen the student situation. Students can continue appealing to a higher instance (chancellor). 5. Charter of Students Rights and Responsibilities CHAPTER III (participation rights) Association. Representation in the UV’s governing bodies. Support for activities, representation and associations. Exert means of protest / complaint. CHAPTER IV (dates, calls and taking exams) 15 5. Charter of Students Rights and Responsibilities TITLE II (Students’ duties) Loyalty. Correct use of resources. Statutes accomplishment. Accomplishment of representative functions. Accomplishment of responsibilities. 16 6. Statute of the university student ü Develops the rights and duties of students. ü Regulates professors’ office hours, exam reviews, exchange programs, or internships. ü Regulates students participation at the university. ü Creates the National University Students Council. ü Valid for public and private Spanish universities. 17 7. Continuance Policy It regulates students continuance in the official degree programs and applies to both full-time and part-time students. First year students are required to pass a minimum of 12 credits. If this requirement is not met, you’re not allowed to enroll in the same degree for two consecutive academic years. In general, a course that has been adapted or validated is considered passed. 7. Continuance Policy Maximum number of exam attempts Up to six attempts to pass each course. No limits on the number of attempts, as long as your pending courses make up a maximum of 15% of your degree. Exceptions Force majeure circumstances that might have influenced the student’s academic performance. Individual cases are at the discretion of the faculty’s dean or the school’s director. 8. Regulations on enrollment Enrolling in a specific pathway. See each degree’s instructions (art. 6). Once degree is completed, you can still register for optional courses, but their grades won’t alter your average grade. Those additional courses will appear in your European Title Supplement (art. 7). 8. Regulations on enrollment You can become a part-time student, as long as you give a reason: working, elite sport, special educational needs, family responsibilities, students’ representation. Has to be approved by the Dean, informed by the degree commission (art. 11). Maximum and minimum enrollment (art. 12): Full-time students: min 36 credits, max. 72. (pending courses have to be necessarily taken) Part-time students: between 24 and 36 credits. (Final Degree Project not included) 8. Regulations on enrollment Article 16. Fees. Established by the Generalitat Valenciana.. Article 17. Higher registration fee. For second-time and further registrations. Established by the Generalitat Valenciana. Article 23. Exemptions and discounts. Grant holders (art. 24) –have to pay certificate fees, insurance… Getting a “Distint. With Honours” (art. 25) –discount for same amount of credits Large family (art. 26) – special: full exemption; general: 50% Victim of organized crime or terrorism (art. 27) Disabilities (art. 28), higher than 33% Article 30 & following. Regulations on academic recognition for participation Students can get up to 6 credits for participating in cultural, sport, students’ representation, solidarity and cooperation activities. These activities have to be done at the UV during the study period. 9.
