Principle based approach to decision making  In health care, the following principles provide a framework to serve as a guideline to help determine the “correct” moral action.  Autonomy refers to a person’s independence, self- determination and self-reliance. A patient has the right to make decisions about their care. When fully informed and capable, an individual has the right to decide which option is best, including refusal  Nonmaleficence refers to the avoidance of causing any harm to the clients. Try to balance the risks and benefits of a plan of care, while striving to do no harm.  Beneficence Promoting good or doing good for others. Take positive steps to help others. Obligated to use your skills in the best interests of the athlete.  Justice Refers to fairness or equity.
