As a security feature, administrators can limit which devices are displayed on a classic dashboard/view. 1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, go to a view on which you want to limit the displayed devices. 2. On the view, click the pencil icon > Page Settings. You can also access the View Limitation section from Manage Dashboards: Click Settings > All Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views, then select a view/classic dashboard, and click Edit. 3. Scroll down and click Edit in the View Limitation area. 4. Select the type of view limitation you want to apply, and click Continue. 5. Provide or select strings or options to define the device types that you want to include or exclude from the selected view, and click Submit. The asterisk (*) is a valid wildcard. Pattern limitations restrict views to devices for which the corresponding fields include the provided string. The view will now only show devices that correspond with the limitation setting. © 2003-2021 SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. SolarWinds Platform Web Console dashboards, or views, are configurable pages of network information that can include maps, charts, summary lists, reports, events, and links to other resources. Summary views provide data about multiple objects. Detail views provide more information for a specific object. For example, the default Summary view displays an overview of all monitored nodes. Clicking on a node in the Summary view opens the Node Details page for that node, where you can see all of the statistics monitored for that device. To customize views, or dashboards, the user must have the following privileges set to Yes: Manage Dashboards to create, customize, and delete dashboards owned by the logged-in user. Manage Views to also manage classic dashboards. Allow Administrator Rights to create, customize, and delete both private and public dashboards. How to customize views/classic dashboards Plan what should be on the view Create an empty view Add widgets to the view Divide information into subviews Limit objects on a view Optimize views for TV screens or mobile devices Use a view as a template Specify views for device Customize the Custom Summary view Add external website views Delete views Widget configuration examples https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-customizing-views-sw1376.htm 1/4 7/23/24, 6:00 PM How custom views/classic dashboards work in the SolarWinds Platform © 2003-2021 SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. See this video: A Step-by-Step Guide to Building Modern Dashboards on the Orion Platform ‚ SolarWinds Lab #93. | Read the THWACK Post These dashboards improve website performance. You can customize the position of widgets on them and resize the widgets as required. Data on these dashboards is updated automatically; you don't have to refresh the page in your browser. You need Administrator Rights or Manage Dashboard rights to customize modern dashboards. Modern dashboards are not compatible with Internet Explorer 11. SolarWinds recommends using another supported browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge), or working with classic dashboards. Create a dashboard Add widgets and specify the widget type Set visibility for the dashboard (private or public) Set owner Add the modern dashboard to My Dashboards Troubleshooting Known issues Create a dashboard 1. Click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views. 2. Click Add modern dashboard. Creating dashboards from scratch might take some time. If you have a similar dashboard already defined, select it and click Duplicate. Provide a new name and adjust widgets. If you clone the base dashboards like this, all widgets are linked to their base widget and reflect any change made to the original widget. See Clone and duplicate modern dashboards. 3. Provide a name and click Create. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-fusion-dashboards.htm 1/6 7/23/24, 6:00 PM Customize modern dashboards To start adding widgets, select the Immediately open this dashboard box. The Edit dashboard page opens automatically and you can start adding widgets. If you click Create and don't have the box selected, an empty dashboard is created and added to the dashboards list on the Manage Dashboards view. By default, the new dashboard is private - it is visible only to you and to administrators. See Set visibility to make the dashboard available to other users. Add widgets and specify the widget type If not already on the Edit Dashboards page, go to your modern dashboard and click the pencil icon in the top right corner to enter the edit mode. 1. To add a new widget, drag the widget placeholder button by the handle and position it on the dashboard. You can place the widget anywhere and resize it horizontally and vertically. If you click Done editing in the top right corner now, an empty widget is added. 2. Click Finish configuring to configure the widget. A panel opens on the right. 3. In Source dashboard, select Empty widgets, select one of the options, and click the Customize button at the bottom of the panel. If you click Create widget, an empty widget of the selected type is added to your dashboard. You can finish the configuration later. See Clone and duplicate modern dashboards to learn how to copy widgets that change together with the base widget and how to make them stand-alone. To configure your widget, follow instructions for the widget type: KPI widget Proportional widget Table widget Timeseries widget https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-fusion-dashboards.htm 2/6 7/23/24, 6:00 PM Customize modern dashboards Set visibility for the dashboard (private or public) By default, a dashboard is only visible for the user who created it and to administrators. Without administrator rights, you can edit only the dashboards you created or dashboards you are the "owner" of. If your user has administrator rights, you can: Edit dashboards of other users (add, edit, or remove widgets, configure widgets,..) Set visibility for dashboards - make private dashboards public and vice versa. Change ownership for a dashboard. If you set a user to be the owner of a dashboard, the user can see and edit the dashboard. To set visibility: 1. Click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views. 2. Select the dashboard and click Set visibility. a. Select public to make the dashboard visible to all users. b. Select private to make the dashboard visible only to the owner and to administrators. 3. Click Save. The dashboard is now visible to users according to your settings. Set owner If you want another user without administrator privileges to see or edit your dashboard, set the user as the dashboard’s owner. 1. Click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views. 2. Select the dashboard and click Set owner. 3. Select the user and click Save. The user can now see the dashboard, add, edit, or remove widgets on the dashboard. Add the modern dashboard to My Dashboards To make a dashboard available for users without administrator privileges, you need to add the dashboard to My Dashboards mega menu. Accessing the dashboard from the menu might also be faster and more convenient. 1. Click Settings > Manage Dashboards/Views. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-fusion-dashboards.htm 3/6 7/23/24, 6:00 PM Customize modern dashboards 2. Select the dashboard and click Copy Link to Dashboard. 3. Go to Settings > All Settings, and click Customize Menu Bars in the Customize Navigation & Look section. 4. Click Edit for the Menu Bar you want to add the new dashboard to. To add the new dashboard to My Dashboards > Home menu, click edit for Menu Bar: Default 5. Now on the Edit Default Menu Bar screen, scroll down and click Add. 6. On the New Custom Menu Item popup, provide the name and description for the new dashboard. 7. Paste the link to the dashboard from the Clipboard to the URL field. The new dashboard is added into the list of Available items. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-fusion-dashboards.htm 4/6 7/23/24, 6:00 PM Customize modern dashboards 8. Drag the new dashboard to Selected items, between items where the menu link should appear, and click Submit. The new dashboard now appears in the menu. Troubleshooting How do I rename my modern dashboard? You cannot rename modern dashboards at the moment. To work around the issue: 1. Duplicate the widget: On Manage Dashboards, select the dashboard and click Duplicate. 2. Provide the new name. 3. Delete the original dashboard: Select it and click Delete. My dashboard disappeared after I changed its visibility If you change the visibility of a modern dashboard, you might need to refresh the Manage Dashboards page repeatedly to display the dashboard. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-fusion-dashboards.htm 5/6 7/23/24, 6:00 PM Customize modern dashboards Known issues Different dashboard totals in Manage Dashboards filter If you add the numbers in different filters on Manage Dashboards page, the result might not match. You can choose to have all of your AD users authenticate through LDAP. The SolarWinds Platform server does not need to be added to the Windows domain with this authentication method. All authentication requests will use the domain you save, even if the SolarWinds Platform server is part of a different domain. We do not support Anonymous authentication through LDAP. 1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator. 2. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar. 3. Click Advanced AD Settings in the User Accounts grouping. 4. Toggle Authenticate Active Directory Users via LDAP. 5. Enter your LDAP server information and select the authentication method that matches what is used in LDAP. Click Discover DN to fill in the distinguished name (DN) of the AD domain automatically. If the DN field does not populate, verify that the Directory Server Address is correct. Windows individual accounts now use LDAP. If you created SolarWinds Platform Web Console accounts that use Active Directory or local accounts and those accounts cannot authenticate through LDAP, those accounts cannot login. See Calculate node status for more details on node status. Group status options Show Best Status is useful for displaying groups that are defined as collections of redundant or backup devices. The following table indicates how the Show Best Status option operates: Object States Group Status (Up, Warning, Down) (Up) (Warning, Up) (Up) (Warning, Down, Unknown) (Warning) Mixed Status shows Warning ensures that the status of a group displays the worst warning- type state in the group. If there are no warning-type states, but the group contains a mix of up and down states, then a Mixed Availability ( ) warning status is displayed for the whole group. The following table indicates how the Mixed Status shows Warning option operates: Object States Group Status (Critical, Down) (Critical) (Critical, Warning, Up) (Critical) (Up, Down) (Mixed Availability) Show Worst Status ensures that the worst status in a group of objects is displayed for the whole group. A group is a collection of monitored objects, such as a group of nodes from the same location, or group of all nodes owned by a department. You can include groups in other groups. For example, you can group all nodes managed by DevOps that are mission critical and then add that group to a more inclusive list of mission critical objects. Nesting a group within another does not create a strict parent/child relationship. You can include any group as a member in any number of other groups.
