7/24/24, 10:14 AM How reports work Search NPM Documentation  How reports work Reports provide a bridge between detailed views (which provide point-in-time information) and alerts (which tell you there is a problem). Reports can contain detailed, current state information, or they can contain historical data. You can run an ad-hoc report, or schedule reports to be sent to you automatically, as a PDF, a web page, or email. For example, use a schedule when you want to receive the bandwidth usage from the last 7 days report every Monday morning. SolarWinds recommends that you identify who needs to receive performance or status reports, and how often they should receive them. Run a report SolarWinds provides predefined reports for eachSolarWinds Platform product. To provide meaningful data, some reports require that you monitor the devices for a certain time period. For example, it takes two weeks for baseline reports to populate. 1. Click Reports > All Reports to see the available predefined reports. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/npm/content/onboarding/npm_ob_create_custom_report.htm 1/3 7/24/24, 10:14 AM How reports work 2. On the All Reports page, click the report title to run it immediately. The report populates with data. To share the report, click Export or Print in the top right corner. Schedule a web-based report 1. Click Settings > All Settings > Manage Reports. To access the Report Scheduler and the Report Manager, your user account needs to have the Report Management rights. You can also access the view from Reports: Click Reports > All Reports, and then click Manage Reports in the top right corner of the view. 2. Select a web-based report, and click Schedule Report > Create New Schedule. 3. On the Schedule Properties panel, type a name and description and click Next. 4. On the Schedule Frequency panel, click Add Frequency. 5. On the Add Frequency dialog box, type a name and select a time interval. 6. Select the days when you want to execute the report. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/npm/content/onboarding/npm_ob_create_custom_report.htm 2/3 7/24/24, 10:14 AM How reports work 7. Enter a time and click Add Frequency. 8. On the Schedule Frequency panel, click Next. 9. On the Actions to Execute panel, click Add Action and specify whether you want to email the report, print it, or save it to a disk. Click Next. 10. On the Schedule Configuration Summary panel, review the schedule and click Create Schedule. The SolarWinds Platform will execute the specified action (email the report, print it, or save it for you) according to the schedule. © 2003-2021 SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Specific Objects (static selection) Dynamic Query Builder Advanced DataBase Query (SQL, SWQL) Specific Objects (static selection) Use this option when you know which objects you want to include in your chart or table. This is the most straightforward selection method, and recommended for new users. It is also the preferred method for relatively permanent network objects. 1. Filter or search for the objects you want to include. 2. Select the objects' check boxes. Dynamic Query Builder Use this option to select objects based on object properties. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-selection-methods.htm 1/3 7/24/24, 10:14 AM Selection methods This is the preferred selection method for groups of objects of a specified type that may change over time. "All Cisco nodes in Austin" is an example of a group best defined using the Dynamic Query Builder. 1. Select the type of selector query you want to use (Basic or Advanced). The Advanced Selector provides access to all network object characteristics, and the Basic Selector provides access to a smaller subset of the most frequently used network object characteristics. 2. Select the type of objects to report on from the I want to report on drop-down menu. 3. Specify the condition for displaying objects: a. Click Add Condition. b. Select All child conditions must be satisfied (AND) or At least one child condition must be satisfied (OR). c. Select a property of the monitored object, a conditional relation, and provide a value. d. If necessary, add another condition. For Basic Selector, click Add Simple Condition and repeat previous actions. For Advanced Selector, click the + sign to add child conditions, and select an option: Add Single Value Comparison (Recommended) - The child condition evaluates a single field, like Status Add Double Value Comparison - The child condition evaluates two conditions, such as Status and OS Add And/Or block - Adds a sub condition block https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-selection-methods.htm 2/3 7/24/24, 10:14 AM Selection methods Advanced DataBase Query (SQL, SWQL) Use this option if you are comfortable querying your SolarWinds database directly using SQL or SWQL. SQL queries using the WITH clause are not supported. 1. Select SQL or SWQL, and enter your query. The SQL option is disabled for non-administrator accounts, due to security reasons. Moreover, SQL does not respect account limitations and users might see data they shouldn't have access to. SWQL does not require administrator rights; it respects account limitations. 2. Click Preview Results to test your query. © 2003-2021 SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. Step 1: Specify reports you want a user to see by assigning a report limitation category to them. Step 2: Specify reports a user can see by assigning the report limitation category to the user account. Before you begin Before you start using report limitation categories, review the following considerations and prepare a plan for restricting access to reports: You can only assign one report limitation category to each report. For example, if you define a "finance" category to a report, only users with the "finance" restriction can access the report. Users with a "marketing" category won't see the report. Users can only see reports from one report limitation category. You must decide what group of reports each user should be able to see: does the user need "finance" or "marketing" reports? You cannot prevent users from accessing reports they created. When a user creates a report, the user becomes the owner of the report. Report owners can access the report, even if the report is not in the report limitation category assigned to the report owner. You can prevent users from accessing all reports. To do so, apply the No Reports limitation to the user account. You can allow administrator users to see all reports. To do so, apply the No Limitation Report Limitation Category to the user account. Assign a report limitation category to a report 1. Start creating or editing a report. To do so, click Reports > All Reports > Manage Reports. 2. On the Properties page, expand Report Limitation. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-using-report-limitation-categories-sw3107.htm 1/3 7/24/24, 10:15 AM Restrict who can access reports in the SolarWinds Platform 3. Specify the Report Limitation category: To create a new category, click Add new and provide a name for the new category. To use an existing limitation category, select it. Each report can have only one limitation. 4. Complete the Add Report or Edit Report wizard. If you created a new report limitation and saved the report, the limitation is available in the user settings. Specify the report limitation for a user After the report limitation is saved, it is available in the user account's Define Settings page. 1. Click Settings > All Settings > User Accounts. 2. Select the user and click Edit. 3. In the Report Limitation Category, select the limitation, and save your changes. The user can now access only reports in the selected limitation category and reports created by the user. Enable an administrator to see reports from all limitation categories When you create users with administrator rights, they have the Default report limitation category assigned. These administrators thus cannot see reports that belong to a custom, non-default report category, such as reports created by other users with administrator rights. The built-in SolarWinds Platform admin account has the No Limitation report category applied by default and can thus access all reports. To see all reports, provide the user with the No Limitation category. 1. Click Settings > All Settings > User Accounts. 2. Select the user and click Edit. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-using-report-limitation-categories-sw3107.htm 2/3 7/24/24, 10:15 AM Restrict who can access reports in the SolarWinds Platform 3. In the Report Limitation Category, select the No Limitation category, and save your changes. The user can now see all reports, regardless of the limitation category they belong to. Disable users from accessing all reports To prevent a user from seeing all reports, specify the No Reports limitation category in the user account. The No Reports limitation removes all access to reports when applied to a user account. 1. Click Settings > All Settings > User Accounts. 2. Select the user and click Edit. 3. In the Report Limitation Category, select the No reports category, and save your changes. The user can now only access the reports s/he created. Configure a report you created to be available only for your user account If you want to keep a report you created private, set its Report Limitation Category to No Reports. Administrators with the No Limitation category can access private reports. 1. When creating or editing the report, go to the Properties tab. 2. In the Report Limitation drop-down, select No Reports. 3. Complete the wizard. This way, the report will only be available to you. © 2003-2021 SolarWinds Worldwide, LLC. By default, a report is 960 pixels wide with a header and footer, and a single column for content. Customize report size Customize report headers Customize the body of the report Customize the report footer The following procedure assumes you are already creating or editing a report in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. Customize report size By default, reports are 960 px wide. You can modify a report size on the Layout Builder page,: To use a specific width, enter the required value in pixel into the Report width box. To expand the report to the width of the browser window, click Fit to window width. Customize report headers 1. On the Layout Builder page, provide the name for the report in the large field. To avoid file name conflicts when scheduling or exporting reports, do not use special characters in the report name, such as ,... 2. Adjust or add a description to display below the report name. 3. To add a custom logo: a. Click Browse for logo to change the default logo. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-customizing-report-layout.htm 1/3 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Customize a web-based report layout in the SolarWinds Platform b. Ensure that the Logo check box is selected. Changing the logo does not affect other reports. The maximum image size is 600 pixels wide and 240 pixels high. Customize the body of the report By default, the report has a single section that occupies 100% of the report page. To customize it, go to the Layout Builder page, and edit the body layout: To use a different layout, select a predefined layout from the Page Layout box below the logo (1). The report body is automatically divided into sections according to the selected layout. Define data for each section. See Add content to a web-based report in the SolarWinds Platform. To divide a section into multiple columns, specify the number of Layout columns. You can either type the number or use the arrows to increase/decrease the number (2). To change the width of a column, provide appropriate percentage over the column (3). To add a section, click Add Section below the last section. To change the order of sections, drag a section by the handle (4) and drop it on its position. https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/core-customizing-report-layout.htm 2/3 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Customize a web-based report layout in the SolarWinds Platform Customize the report footer On the Layout Builder page, scroll down to the footer. Possible reasons include the sample interval of the chart shorter than polling frequency, historical data already summarized, data not being polled, and customized Chart Settings excluding some data from the chart. Consider upgrading to modern charts if counterparts are available. Apr 21, 2023 Success Center FIRST PUBLISHED DATE 11/29/2018 10:48 PM LAST PUBLISHED DATE 4/21/2023 8:57 PM OVERVIEW Legacy or classic charts in the Orion Web Console display the following message: Data is not available. https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Orion-Web-Console-charts-display-Data-is-not-available?language=en_US 1/9 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Orion Web Console charts display Data is not available ENVIRONMENT NPM 2022.3;NPM 2022.4;NPM 2023.1;NPM 2023.2;NPM 2023.3;NPM 2023.4;NPM 2024.1;NPM 2024.2 CAUSE This list provides the most common causes of the "No Data is available" message: Incorrect date/time settings on the SQL Server The data is not in the database (not supported, not polled yet, not polled at all, already summarized (https://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/helploader.aspx? topic=orioncoreagorionpollingsettingsdatabasesettings.htm)) Customized widget settings (chart sample shorter than the polling interval, unsuitable variable) Customized general chart settings (customized chart settings hide the data) RESOLUTION I. Check the SQL server date and time 1. Correct the NTP server that was setting the wrong date/time. II. Make sure the data is in the database If you verified the items, the data should be available in the database. This will be dependent on the type of chart being reviewed and varies widely. With the introduction of Orion Log Viewer, an additional database is required. For SolarWinds Platform environments running 2022.3 and newer, there are three databases and their default names are SolarWindsOrion, SolarWindsOrionLog, and SolarWindsNetflowStorage, for the main database, Orion Log Viewer, and Netflow data respectively. For example, a chart for CPU load on a node would have data stored in the CPULoad_CS_cur table. Please review Use Database Manager utility to view the SolarWinds Orion database (/SuccessCenter/s/article/Use-Database- Manager-to-view-the-SolarWinds-database) for more information on how to confirm data in the tables. https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Orion-Web-Console-charts-display-Data-is-not-available?language=en_US 2/9 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Orion Web Console charts display Data is not available III. Upgrade historical or legacy charts to modern charts In Orion Platform 2018.4, modern charts were introduced. See A brief history of Orion Platform charts (https://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/orionplatform/content/core-migrate-classic-charts- to-modern-manually.htm?cshid=orioncoreaddmoderncharts#A). Consider using modern charts if available. See Modern charts replacing legacy and classic charts in Orion Platform 2018.4 (/SuccessCenter/s/article/Modern-charts-replacing-legacy-charts-in-Orion-Platform-2018-4? language=en_US&r=90&ui-knowledge-components-aura- actions.KnowledgeArticleVersionCreateDraftFromOnlineAction.createDraftFromOnlineArticle=1) and Migrate to modern charts (https://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/helploader.aspx? topic=orioncoreaddmoderncharts) for details. IV. Verify settings for the chart with issues Make sure that the sample interval on the chart is longer than the polling frequency for the data to display. The chart should display the correct data. If it is not the case, verify the time variables in the chart. Select Edit on the upper right of the chart widget and adjust the Sample Interval then select Submit. Please note that this option requires the Manage Views permission to be set to Yes on the account. By default, Nodes are polled every 10 minutes, Interfaces every 9 minutes, and Volumes every 15 minutes. V. Verify the time variables used in the chart When specifying the time period for the chart using time variables, use ${toTime} or ${toTimeUTC} instead ${untilTime}. Alternatively, filter by time in the chart and not in the query. VI. Verify general Chart settings and revert them to defaults Customized general chart settings, such as the Maximum number of data series displayed chart or Chart Aspect Ratio, may prevent data from displaying on your charts as well. Consider reverting chart settings to defaults. See Chart Settings (http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/helploader.aspx? https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Orion-Web-Console-charts-display-Data-is-not-available?language=en_US 3/9 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Orion Web Console charts display Data is not available topic=OrionCoreAGOrionChartSettings.htm) for more information. VII. Revert the Chart Settings to defaults using Web Console 1. In Main Settings & Administration, find the Thresholds & Polling grouping, and click Polling Settings. 2. Review the interval for polling the statistics. 3. Click Edit in the chart, and adjust the Sample Interval on the chart so that it is not shorter than the polling interval. For example, when polling Nodes every 10 minutes, do not set the Sample Interval to 10 Minutes; use a longer interval instead. 4. Click Submit. VIII. Use a query to verify the Maximum Number of Data Series Displayed on the Chart is too low: 1. Log in to the Orion Web Console as an administrator. 2. Click Settings > All Settings > Web Console Settings in the Product-Specific Settings grouping. 3. Scroll down to Chart Settings, and locate the Maximum number of data series displayed on the chart. 4. Adjust this setting to a value greater than 10. The default setting is 10. SolarWinds recommends adjusting this setting to no higher than 20. 5. Make sure that the Chart Aspect Ratio is set to a value above 3. 6. Save your settings. IX. Revert the Maximum number of data series to defaults using SQL: The charts should now display all data in the data series. 1. Use Database Manager to view the SolarWinds database (/SuccessCenter/s/article/Use-Database-Manager- to-view-the-SolarWinds-database?language=en_US&r=163&ui-knowledge-components-aura- actions.KnowledgeArticleVersionCreateDraftFromOnlineAction.createDraftFromOnlineArticle=1), add the database, and run the following query: https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Orion-Web-Console-charts-display-Data-is-not-available?language=en_US 4/9 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Orion Web Console charts display Data is not available -- Scripts are not supported under any SolarWinds support program or service. -- Scripts are provided AS IS without warranty of any kind. Verify that the device was not in maintenance (unmanaged state) during the requested time. Click Settings > Manage Nodes, and check out the Status for the device. See Suspend collecting data for nodes (https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/Content/Core-Setting-Device- Management-States-sw2036.htm). Verify that interfaces or volumes are monitored correctly. In Node Management, select the node, and click List resources and make sure the interfaces or volumes are selected. Verify that hardware health sensors on the device provide both status and values. If you are monitoring hardware health, some devices may report status only and do not report values that display in a chart. See Monitoring Hardware Health (http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/helploader.aspx? topic=orionagmonitoringhardwarehealth.htm) for details. If you are monitoring NetFlow with SolarWinds NTA and cannot see any data, make sure you have configured devices properly (http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/helploader.aspx? topic=orionnetflowagorionntadeviceconfigurationexamples.htm) to export flow data. Verify that historical data have not been summarized yet. By default, detailed statistics are stored in the database for 7 days. After that, statistics collected within an hour are summarized, an average is calculated for each hour and stored in the database. Consider changing how long you want to keep detailed historical data (https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/Content/core-optimization- system-maintenance.htm) in the database. Note: Changing default settings can require additional space in the SolarWinds Orion database. Consider your SQL environment resources, such as disk space and hardware configuration before you change the retention periods. Some metrics are not supported for all devices: Meraki wireless controllers (NPM 12.1 and later): the Average Response Time and Packet Loss resources do not show data because these metrics are not supported for Meraki infrastructure. For Meraki, these metrics are polled from the cloud and thus might be misleading. AIX nodes do not support Disk Queue Length and Disk Usage (response time). https://support.solarwinds.com/SuccessCenter/s/article/Orion-Web-Console-charts-display-Data-is-not-available?language=en_US 6/9 7/24/24, 10:16 AM Orion Web Console charts display Data is not available Other Useful Articles Core Chart Settings (http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/en/flarehelp/orionplatform/content/core- chart-settings-sw2486.htm) Orion Web Console and Chart Settings (https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/Content/Core-Orion-Web- Console-and-Chart-Settings-sw1196.htm) NTA charts: Data not available (/SuccessCenter/s/article/NTA-charts-Data-not-available? language=en_US&r=209&ui-knowledge-components-aura- actions.KnowledgeArticleVersionCreateDraftFromOnlineAction.createDraftFromOnlineArticle=1) NTA shows Data Not Available (/SuccessCenter/s/article/NTA-shows-Data-Not-Available? language=en_US&r=209&ui-knowledge-components-aura- actions.KnowledgeArticleVersionCreateDraftFromOnlineAction.createDraftFromOnlineArticle=1) STM: Data is not available on Web Console charts for Storage Manager (/SuccessCenter/s/article/Data-is- not-available-on-Web-Console-charts-for-Storage-Manager?language=en_US&r=209&ui-knowledge- components-aura- actions.KnowledgeArticleVersionCreateDraftFromOnlineAction.createDraftFromOnlineArticle=1) Disclaimer: Please note, any content posted herein is provided as a suggestion or recommendation to you for your internal use.
