Distance Distance The length that one travels from the start to the end of the motion Measuring how far the object has moved from one point to another In the metric system, the standard unit for measuring distance is meter (m). Very short distance can be measured in either millimeters (mm) or centimeters (cm). Long distance can be measured in kilometers (km). In measuring the length of the distance, a measuring tool is used. Like ruler, meterstick, tape measure, odometer, or odograph. Metric System Conversion for Length/Distance 1 centimeter = 10 millimeters 1 decimeter = 10 centimeters 1 meter = 10 decimeters 1 meter = 100 centimeter 1 kilometer = 1,000 meters Dino travels a distance of 5 km from his home to the school every day. How many meters does he travel?
