In the past, Kazakhs were nomads who traveled with animals like cows, horses, and camels. Milk helped them stay strong and healthy. This project is important because it shows how milk is part of our history and culture. We will also talk to children to see what they know about milk and where it comes from, helping us learn about our traditions in today's world. The theme of the research is: “Legacy of Milk: Why Dairy Products Matter to Kazakhs.” The object of the research is: Milk The subject of the research is the importance of milk and dairy products in Kazakh culture and how much children know about them. The hypothesis: Children in Kazakhstan are familiar with milk and dairy products but may not fully understand their cultural significance and history. The goal of research is: To explore the cultural and historical significance of dairy products for Kazakhs and their role in contemporary nutrition. To achieve the goal the following objects have been set: 1. Study the significance of milk among nomadic Kazakhs. 2. Describe why dairy products are important today. 3. Investigate dairy products available in supermarkets. 4. Examine the milking and processing procedures on farms. 5. Conduct a survey with children about dairy products. 3 Chapter 1: The History of Milk among Kazakhs 1.1 Nomadic Life and the Importance of Milk A long time ago, Kazakhs lived by moving around with their animals to find food and water. They had cows, horses, and camels. Milk from these animals was very important because it helped them stay strong and healthy while traveling. Kazakhs used milk not just to drink but also to make food. They made butter, cheese, and yogurt, which gave them energy for their long journeys. For example, құрт (dried cheese) was easy to carry and lasted a long time, making it great for traveling.Milk was also special in their culture. Kazakhs believed it was a gift from nature and used it in celebrations, like weddings and holidays. Sharing milk with guests showed kindness and respect. For Kazakhs, milk was more than food; it was part of their daily life. They made special drinks like qymyz (fermented horse milk) and shubat (fermented camel milk), which are still enjoyed today. These drinks are tasty and healthy, helping people stay strong. Milk was very important for Kazakhs, especially in tough places like mountains and steppes. It gave them energy and was essential for feeding their families. Kazakhs had a strong bond with their animals, and taking care of them was part of their life. This connection helped shape their culture, making milk a key part of their heritage.. 4 Chapter 2: Modern Dairy Production 2.1 Dairy Products in the Supermarket Today, when we go to the supermarket, we can find many different types of dairy products. The shelves are filled with various kinds of milk, such as cow's milk, goat's milk, and even sheep's milk. Each type of milk has its unique taste and benefits. There are also many delicious dairy products like yogurt, cheese, and butter. In the dairy section, you can see yogurt in different flavors, which is a popular snack for many children. Cheese comes in many varieties, like hard cheese, soft cheese, and even string cheese, making it fun to eat. Butter is used for cooking and spreading on bread, adding flavor to many dishes. I also visited a local supermarket to research dairy products. I was excited to see all the different options available. In Kazakhstan, you can find traditional products like құрт (dried cheese) and qymyz (fermented horse milk) in some stores. These products connect us to our cultural heritage and show how dairy is still a big part of our diet. People enjoy these products not just for their taste but also for their nutritional value. Dairy products are rich in calcium, protein, and vitamins, which help us grow strong and healthy. Exploring the supermarket helped me understand how many choices we have and how important dairy is in our everyday lives. 5 Chapter 3: Dairy Farms and Production 3.1 The Milking Process and Milk Processing I visited a farm outside the city to explore the milk production process. It was an interesting trip where I saw how farmers take care of the animals and collect the milk. I watched how cows are milked and learned about how the milk is processed and prepared for sale. This helped me understand where milk comes from and how it becomes part of our food. At the farm, the milking process begins with the farmers feeding and caring for the cows. They usually milk the cows early in the morning or late in the evening. Dairy farms are essential for providing fresh milk and other dairy products to our communities. By understanding the milking process and milk processing, we can appreciate the hard work that goes into bringing milk from the farm to our tables. 6 7 3.2 Which Animals Provide Milk Many animals provide us with milk, and each type of milk has its own special flavor and benefits. The most common animal that gives us milk is the cow. Cow's milk is popular all around the world and is used to make many dairy products like cheese and yogurt. During my visit to the farm, I saw different animals that provide milk. I saw cows, goats, and even camels! Each of these animals produces milk that is used in various ways. Goat's milk is often used to make cheese, and it has a different taste than cow's milk. Camel milk is also special; it is known for its health benefits and is a traditional drink in some cultures. I researched how these animals are cared for and how their milk is collected. Farmers take good care of them, ensuring they are healthy and happy. This helps the animals produce high-quality milk. 8 Understanding which animals provide milk helps us appreciate the variety of dairy products we can enjoy every day. Chapter 4: Practical Part 4.1 Interview with Children about Milk I conducted a survey with 15 children to see how much they know about the animals that produce milk. Here's what I found: 9 - 9 children knew all three animals that produce milk: cow, horse, and camel. - 3 children knew only two animals: cow and horse, but they didn’t know that camels also produce milk. - 3 children didn’t know which animals give milk. 10 This information helps us understand how well children are familiar with traditional sources of milk. Most children knew the animals, but some are less familiar with camels as a source of milk. This shows that there is still some learning to be done about the cultural importance of milk in Kazakhstan. Conclusions Thanks to my research work, I learned a lot about traditional dairy products and I also realized that the main food that people eat in modern Kazakhstan is dairy products.
