Introduction Are you also one of the students who thinks that history should not be in the curriculum because you believe that the past is already past? If you think about it, history has always been part of us. If we admit it or not, we tend to find history as the least important and the most boring subject of all time. We just studied because it is a requirement for us to pass our subject. But, little did we know, history is much greater than that, it was not just a story about the past, rather it was a lesson for us to gain for future purposes because if we like it or not, we don't know what future holds. Discussion: What is History? History is simply the study of the past through analysis and interpretations of visual, written, and spoken sources. The main goal of history is to look for the events that happen in the past and how things change over time. (What is history? Who is storian? n.d.) Why should we care about it? Let's imagine history as if it was a big tall book that contains knowledge or information on how things worked before---how people lived, how things worked, what they did, and what they believed. By studying history, we learn about the past mistakes, successes, and struggles, which can teach us variable lessons for the future. History gives us context for current events and allows us to better understand different perspectives, for us to prevent biases. Also, history helps us to avoid repeating the same mistake that we did in the past. Knowing history also connects us to our roots, providing us a self identity and helps us to appreciate the world we live in. **On this module we were able to identify the two types of history.** Two types of history: **Factual** - **Speculative** - How to analyze history? Analyzing history is like solving a puzzle about the past! First thing that you need to do is you should pick what you want to learn about, like a cool event or a big moment in history. Then, you gather all the information you can find, like in books, articles, old letters, or even stories passed down. But here's the catch! not everything you find is true or reliable in history, some of the information is not really true, so you have to check if it's legit. Once you figure out what's real, you take those important pieces of information and put them together and that is where you connect the dots to know what happened and why it happened. As you can see now, it's like solving a jigsaw puzzle about the past! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Historiography is the study of how history is written and the methods historians use to analyze history. Historical Sources Historical sources are the materials that we used in order to learn about the past. It help us learn what and why it happened. And, it has two types, which are Primary and Secondary sources. 1. 2. Both primary and secondary sources are important for studying history. Primary sources give us raw or original data, while secondary sources help us understand what that data means and how it fits into the larger picture of history. When analyzing these sources, it\'s important to think critically about where they come from, who created them, and why. This helps ensure we\'re using them accurately to build our understanding of the past (Groeneveld, 2024). Historical Criticism Historical criticism is the process of analyzing and evaluating historical sources to understand their meaning, context, and reliability. It's like digging deeper into the sources to make sure we are interpreting the past accurately (Leverkuhn, 2024). - - - - - - Historical Bias Historical bias is like when someone tells a story but only shares one side of it or adds their own opinions to make things seem a certain way. Imagine you're hearing a story about a big event, but the person telling it only talks about how great their own side was and the person leaves out the other side's perspective (*Historical Bias \| World Civilization*, n.d.) 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
