research rev TEST 1 1. Rationale - D. Experimenting is one of the tasks in a science class. No science course is ever complete unless each student has experienced conducting experiment/s. Laboratory activities are basic to science education and as such it is an integral subject for leaming. However, it is observed that students continue to find difficulties in conducting experiments in a science laboratory. 2. Setting of the Problem - A. To cite, students in Malakas National High School have specific science leaming areas per grade level in the JHS and SHS departments respectively. However, these students continue to experience difficulties in various science learning areas. The teacher must retrain students about the science laboratory processes and apparatus. 3. Literature Foundation - F. However as cited by Cuyegking (2008), in the Philippine educational system, one of the most pressing problems is the poor achievement of Filipino students in science and technology. Somehow this indicates that the current teaching- learning methods in science are not fully developed among teachers and students. According to Puno (2005) academic excellence must include excellence in the sciences. 4. Seriousness of the Problem- B. Earlier studies show that students, in general, fail to connect chemistry principles to realistic problems. This has been the case since students are usually presented in class with very theoretical and abstract body of knowledge instead of hands-on experiences. With these factors there is a failure in the facilitation of science education. 5. General Objective -E. At present, the researcher, as a college instructor, is experiencing the abovementioned scenario in science education. If not dealt with properly it might result to poor performance in science laboratory activities. It is in this light that this research was conducted to determine the factors affecting the students' performance in Chemistry labo ratory. 6. General Purpose - C. To improve the performance of the science instructors, which will result to improved student performance in achievement examinations and a positive impact on school effectiveness. TEST 2 Review of Literature Elementary Reading Systematic Skimming Comparative Reading Note-Taking Actual Reading Library Previewing Highlighting Annotating 7. It is a good source of reference materials where journals, textbooks, reference books theses abstract dissertations, and computers with internet access can be found. LIBRARY 8. It is the process of compiling, classifying, and evaluating what other researchers have widen on a certain topic. REVIEW OF LITERATURE 9. With this type of reading. the researcher should establish a system through which he or she can maximize time in searching for relevant literature. SYSTEMATIC SKIMMING 10 This is done by physically marking the text to identify key details and note the relationships among ideas. HIGHLIGHTING 11. It is the highest level of reading which requires the reader to place what he or she is currently reading in. relation to other materials he or she has previously read COMPARATIVE READING 12. In this stage of reading, the researcher must critique the contents of the materials ACTUAL READING 13. Its the process of reading to get a general idea of the things to look for in the text. PREVIEWING 14. It is the recording of the reader's reactions as marginal notes. ANNOTATING 15. This is useful especially when the researcher is already synthesizing and compiling ideas from various references NOTE- TAKING 16. it consists merely of the recognition of letters and basic sounds and the literal comprehension of sentences ELEMENTARY READING IlI.
