Sionil Jose The story revolves around the main characters Jacobo Salcedo (Jake) and Gina Garcia. Jake is attracted to Gina from a young age, but they never confess their feelings for each other. The conflicts in the story include social status, war separating them, and their failure to confess their love. The climax occurs when Jake meets Gina but doesn't reveal his true identity, leading to a tragic ending where they marry other people. Jake becomes successful, while Gina's marriage ends in tragedy. The story depicts the psychological struggles of Jake and Gina, who are unable to overcome their doubts and fears. The setting shifts from the province of San Jacinto to Manila, highlighting the characters' journeys and social backgrounds. REGION 2: CAGAYAN VALLEY THE BUILDER By: Edith Tiempo An intriguing story, the novel starts in Mr. Felix Acuna, a professor in Physics in the university town of Dumaguete. As he ends his class one morning, he is being jolted into the daylight violence across the street, making his life to begin with a detective purpose. This thrills into a challenge about putting his own life to a standstill when he must build a house while awaiting the birth of his firstborn. Its essence captures the reality of characters involved their surprising moral ambiguities and the sundry details of lives that cannot be put on hold even REGION 3: CENTRAL LUZON FLORANTE AT LAURA By: Francisco Balagtas The story takes place in a dark, dangerous forest in the kingdom of Albania, filled with dangerous creatures. Florante, son of Duke Briseo and Princess Floresca, is found tied to a tree, barely alive. He reflects on the treachery and suffering in Albania, caused by Count Adolfo's quest for power. Florante longs for Laura, his love, to save him but is rescued by Aladin, a Muslim soldier, who professes his love for Flerida. Aladin reveals his father's brutal death at the hands of Count Adolfo. Florante is grateful for Aladin's rescue and shares his own story of growing up in Albania and He describes his love for Laura, who he saves from being beheaded by Muslims in the forest. They return to Albania, defeat Adolfo, and rule with justice. The story ends with Florante and Laura ruling over Albania, while Aladdin and Flerida return to Persia to rule happily after being baptized as Christians.
