Recruitment and selection means hiring employees with the right skills and experience by business. **Types of Employment** a. **Full time Employment** - This is a business that takes on an employee expected to work the full working week. Full time workers may be entitled to certain benefits and rights in addition to pay such as Health insurance , overtime pay etc. b. **Part time Employment**- Part time workers work fewer hours than full time workers , It is normally less than 30 hours per week.Workers are employed for shorter periods of time when a business is at the busiest or a business wants to stay open for longer hours. c. **Job Share**- This is two part time workers sharing the work and pay of a single full time post.The two people sharing will have to work as a team and interact effectively. Advantages of a job share for a business is that it has the ideas and enthusiasm of two People rather than one.Such employees are better motivated and less stressed as they themselves have chosen to reduce the number of hours of work that they have to do. **Other Types of Employment** a. **Casual Employment**- Casual workers do not get any guarantee of work from their employer.Their hours of work are often variable , uncertain and the employer can ask them to work at a shorter notice. b. **Seasonal Employment**- Some businesses need workers at particular times of the year.The work is regular and full time but short lived.Such workers are laid off when the season ends. Eg. a farm manager need extra workers during the harvest season c. **Temporary Employment**- Sometimes businesses need to take on staff for a short period of time to cover for absent workers. Advertising: Job adverts are placed in local and national newspapers as well as online media. b. Job centres can be used to advertise certain jobs free of charge. c. Direct applicants. Business may keep all applications by job seekers. d. Head Hunting - Specific people are targeted for a high level vacancy. e. Word of mouth - People apply after finding out that a vacancy exists from friends and other contacts from the concerned business. f. Employment agencies - Specialists that help recruit staff for businesses - may charge a fee for their services. Job advertisements. Shortlististing: After receiving all application forms, the next stage is to select a small group of candidates suitable for interviewing. Interviewing: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview. Interviewers can find out more about the applicants by asking direct questions face to face. It also gives candidates the opportunity to provide more detailed information and to ask questions about the job and the business.
