Let’s have a look at some of the events Take notes ! 1) Just before the summer : Trooping the color  On June 15 , it was Trooping the Colour, an annual celebration of the birthday of th the reigning British monarch. It is held traditionally on the second Saturday in June, regardless of the Sovereign’s actual date of birth  The parade was an opportunity for the household division to demonstrate their professional excellence and loyalty to the Crown and thereby to King Charles III  It was Catherine’s first public appearance since November. 2) Rishi SUNAK organised early legislative elections in the UK on July 4th  Things were not looking good for the Conservatives so Rishi Sunak called for early legislative elections.  It was a landslide for labour with more than 411 seats for Labour and only 121 for Conservatives out of the total 650 seats!  A major miscalculation for the Conservatives, a great win for Labour and their leader, Keir Starmer.  As early as July 8th, a new government was formed. 3) In France, the summer was far from calm: with Inthe  dissolution of the French an unexpected turn of event, on 9th June Assembly… Would you Emmanuel Macron announced the dissolution of like me to show you the French Assembly. Elections took place on how it works ? 30th June and 7th July.  After a landslide of the far right during the European elections and the 1st round of the elections, the coalition between Ecologists, Socialists and the far left won but without an absolute majority, it is difficult to form a governement  Necessity to make a compromise and a coalition.  The French are not used to that ! Cheanu, June 2024. 4) On 1st July 2024, The Supreme court declared that Donald Trump was partly immune from prosecution concerning the 2020 riots The Supreme Court ruled that former President Donald J. Trump was partly immune from prosecution on charges that he plotted to subvert the 2020 election. The justices returned the case to the lower courts for additional analysis, s saying that the president may be prosecuted for private conduct, but not official acts. Why these sudden changes at the Supreme Court?  It all started with Donald Trump’s presidency. After that, in June 2022 when the right of abortion was repealed.  The 9 Supreme court justices are appointed by the American president for life.  During his mandate, Donald Trump nominated 3 Justices. (Republican)  2 were nominated during Barack Obama’s term (Democrat)  The remaining 3 were nominated by Bush Junior and Bush Senior (Republicans)  1 was nominated by Joe Biden : Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson. Supreme Court : let’s recap the main consequence of this decision  As a result, today , 6 of the 9 judges are conservative, only 3 are moderate.  If Donald Trump were elected again in November, He would obviously win seats in the Senate and in the House of Representatives.  He would have a majority or « Free reign » in the Three branches of US power : executive, judiciary and legislative. 5) 9th July 2024 Ariane 6 launched from KOUROU in French GUYANA.  The Space conquest has been going on since 1957 with the launch of the first Satellite called Spoutnik into Space  Successful launch.  More on https://dlmultimedia.esa.int/download/p ublic/videos/2024/02/023/2402_023_BR_ 024.mp4 Sources : La conquête de l'espace | Edutheque-pp (afp.com) Next.ink 6) Still too many gun shootings  On July 13th Donald Trump was shot during a meeting in Pennsylvania.  A young twenty-year old man shot at him.  For the first time in more than four decades, a man who was elected president of the U.S. was wounded in an assassination attempt. The shooting killed a man, injured Trump and critically wounded two others.  Secret Service snipers killed the assailant 7) 18th July : Mandela’s Day was celebrated. andela’s Birthday , the 18th July, is celebrated around the world since 2009… s a way to pay a tribute to his fight for the end of Apartheid in South Africa. lson Mandela was the first black president elected in South Africa. He was elected in 94 during the first democratic elections, respecting the principle of « One man one vote ». e should all pay attention to his way of making past enemies work together in the post artheid era. 8) The War in Ukraine for more than 2 years 9 months… More and more victims, civilians and soldiers and a lot of risks worldwide. Nuclear risks, problems of energy shortages and food shortages. Cette photo par Auteur inconnu est soumise à la licence CC BY 9) Death of Shanon Doherty  She died after struggling against breast cancer.  She had tried to raise awareness about the disease through her Instagram account.  She became famous and hated for her part in Beverly Hills as Brenda and later in Charmed. 10) Climate change : visible all summer long:  There were wild fires around the world from Canada to Greece all summer long  Signs of extreme heat…  There were Record High Temperatures in July all across Europe from Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, the UK, Portugal… https://strangesounds.org/2019/05/alberta-wildfire-chuckegg-creek-canada-photo.ht ml 11) On July 21st : Joe Biden withdrew from the American Presidential elections  Kamala Harris will run for president with Tim Walz as his VP.  On November 5th Americans will vote for their delegates who will in turn vote for Kamala Harris or Donald Trump.  It was a sudden but well-received decision as Joe Biden had health problems.  Joe Biden is President until January 2025, when the next President is sworn in office.
