SELF-LEARNING PACKAGE IN PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2 QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH Quarter 2—Week 8—9 Draws conclusions from research findings (CS_RS12-IIh-j-1 ) Formulates recommendations (CS_RS12-IIh-j-2 ) Ready to Launch! Hi, there ! We are about to finish the Practical Research II. You’re almost ready to complete your research paper. Last week, you already collected and analyzed your data. In this module, we will be making conclusions out from your data and re- sults. We would also formulate the recommendation of your study. Conclusion and recommendation sections are the final parts of your study. These should summarize all the learnings you got from your research study. So are you ready to wrap up everything? Let’s go! Aim at the Target! At the end of this module, you should be able to: Form logical conclusions from research findings Formulate recommendations Try This! Task 1. Crossword Puzzle! Instructions. Read the clues below and fill in the correct answer. CHOICES: GRAPH ANOVA SURVEY CORRELATION HYPOTHESIS Keep This in Mind! Conclusions are the inferences drawn from the findings of the study. The number of specific findings coincides with number of conclusions. It should be formulated concisely and briefly. If there are hypotheses in the study, the rejection or acceptance of hypotheses shall be placed under conclusions. It should be written to relate directly to the aims of the project as stated in the introduction. Strategies in Writing an Effective Conclusion 1. Conclusions are intertwined with the Introduction. Intertwining your conclusion with the introduction of your research paper can be a good strategy to link the scenario you have introduced and the evidences you have gathered to con- tribute a new knowledge or understanding to the field of your study Example: Introduction: Computer Simulations can be a great tool in effective learning. Learners should be exposed to innovative ways of learning difficult and abstract concepts in sciences. The fo- cused of the study is the effect of computer simulations in learners’ academic performance. Conclusion: The introduction of computer simulations affected the learners’ academic perfor- mance. It significantly increased the grades of the learners compared to control group. 2. Conclusion are inferences and generalizations based upon findings Example: Based on the study on “ Factors Affecting the College Courses Choices of High School Learn- ers, 2 conclusions can be drawn from the findings of the study: Conclusion 1: Males prefer physical-based courses while the females prefer health-related courses. Conclusion 2: There is a significant difference between the college courses choices of female and male high school learners. 3. Conclusions should be specifically answer the questions posed in the “Statement of the Prob- lem” of your research study. Example: If the profile of the respondents for the variation on other measures, here are some examples of possible conclusions: 1. Majority of the respondents are aged 30-39 years old and mostly are females 2. Respondents of the study are mostly learners from grade 12. 3. Among the profile of the respondents, age, sex, educational status, and occupation are not significantly related to household electric consumption. Keep This in Mind! 4. Conclusions should contain facts or actual results from the inquiry or research study. Con- clusions should never be based from implied or indirect implications of the findings. Other Guidelines in Writing Conclusions 1. Conclusions should be clearly, concisely, and briefly stated. 2. Conclusions should be original and accurate. 3. Conclusions should not introduce new arguments , new ideas or information not related to your research study. 4. Conclusions should not leave the reader with an interesting final impression. 5. Conclusion should refer only to the subjects or population of your research study. 6. Conclusions should contain categorical statements. Refrain from using words like perhaps or maybe, or those words that would imply unresolved issues. 7. Conclusions should not contain apologetic statements for unresolved problems in the study. Recommendations play a vital portion of a research study. Formulating recommendations is easy, provided the findings and conclusions have been fully explained and completed. Recom- mendations should always be based in the findings of your study. Characteristics of Recommendations -Relevance of the study -Logical Reasoning -Feasibility and Attainability Purpose of Recommendation There are several purposes of writing a recommendation after determining issues raised in the research study. 1. Policy Recommendations 2. Recommendations for Future Research Directions 3. Recommendations to some Problems Discovered in the Research Study 4. Recommendations for Improvement or Change of the Study 5. There may also be recommendations of the continuance of good practice. Task 2. Exercises from Khan Academy (2021) The Main Conclusion question type is a particularly important one to master, because identifying the main conclusion is an essential step in solving many other types of questions. We’re now ready for some prac- tice. In the following arguments, can you identify the Main Conclu- sions? 1. A new process enables ordinary table salt to be fortified with iron. This advance could help reduce the high incidence of anemia in the world's population due to a deficiency of iron in the diet. Salt is used as a preservative for food and a flavor enhancer all over the globe, and people consume salt in quantities that would provide iron in sig- nificant amounts. Main Conclusion: ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ 2. Does the position of a car driver's seat have a significant impact on driving safety? It probably does. Driving position affects both comfort and the ability to see the road clearly. A driver who is uncomfortable eventually becomes fatigued, which makes it difficult to concentrate on the road. Likewise, the better the visibility from the driver's seat, the more aware the driver can be of road conditions and other vehicles. Main Conclusion: ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________ Conclusions are the inferences drawn from the findings of the study.
