Related Studies This is the part that shows the published studies that are related to the research topic. It discusses the relevant research conducted on a particular topic. Researches from theses and dissertations are usually used in reviewing related studies. Review of related literature and studies It provides an overview of current knowledge, allowing you to identify relevant theories, methods, and gaps in the existing research. It involves finding relevant publications, critically analyzing them and explaining what you found. It doesn't just summarize sources-it analyzes, synthesizes and critically evaluates to give a clear picture of the state of knowledge on the subject. Rules in Citing Related Literature and Studies ✓ Literature and studies must be as recent as possible. ✓ Literature and studies must be relevant to the study. ✓ Literature and studies must be objective and fair. Observe academic writing guidelines. 2. Follow the format in doing the In-text citation and End- Reference Citation. 3. Make the comparisons and contradictions found in the literature clear. 4. End-reference citation-located at the end of the paper. An in-text citation is found in the body of a research paper. 1. Paraphrasing – It means rephrasing or restating the words of an author, putting his/ her thoughts in your own words. Strategies in Paraphrasing 1. Reword 2. Rearrange 3. Remain 4. Recheck Strategies in Paraphrasing 1. Reword – Replace words and phrases with synonyms whenever you can. 2. Rearrange – Rearrange words within sentence to make a new sentence. 3. Remain- keep the words and phrases that cannot be changed – names, dates, titles, etc. 4. Recheck - recheck that your paraphrased sentence conveys the same meaning as the original text. 2. Summarizing – Putting the main idea(s) of someone else’s writing into your own words. Guidelines in Summarizing 1. read and comprehend the text 2.identify main ideas and key points 3. express the information in your own words 3. Quoting – It means using the author’s exact words. Anything you directly quote must be put in quotation marks and referenced. It is advisable to quote when: -You want to highlight the specific sentences and passages. -You are comparing and contrasting specific point of views. If you find yourself quoting an entire paragraph, a paraphrase or summary of that content may often be more appropriate. It is unacceptable to copy-and-paste a sentence written by someone else into your paper and simply add quotation marks around it. Aside from doing in-text citation to avoid plagiarism, writers should also need to do the end- reference citation. It shows full information about the references that were cited in the paper, such as the name of the author/s, publication year, title, publication place, publisher, and American Psychological Association "References" May the force of research be with you.
