EXAMPLE OF BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Title: INFLUENCE OF BODY DYSMORPHIA ON STUDENTS’ SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS (Rabang et al., 2023) Beauty standards in every country have changed over time; giving rise to a crippling fixation with one’s perceived visual imperfection. Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), simply known as body dysmorphia, is an infirmity of self-perception in which a person experiences an excessive distress over a minor “flaw” in their appearance that doesn’t conform to the society’s ideal. Common behaviors consist of constantly looking in the mirror, covering a body part with makeup or clothes, comparing oneself to others, strong conviction that you painfully ugly or deformed, persistent need for validation from others regarding your appearance, and staying away from social activities. These are typically associated with low self- esteem and health problems (Mayo Clinic, 2022). The arising prevalence of body dysmorphia among youth causes a significant detrimental effect on their social and school life. Furthermore, BDD may have a worse effect on students’ social relationships and self-esteem due to the societal emphasis on physical beauty and the prevalence of body image ideals. Individuals who struggle with body dysmorphic issues may find it difficult to build meaningful social connections due to their fear of being judged and rejected based solely on looks. This might impair their overall sense of belonging. This study aims to explain the influence of body dysmorphia on youth’s sense of belongingness, specifically in school, their main social environment as well as to identify the triggers of body dysmorphia, the most frequent body dysmorphia traits executed, and the ways to cope with it. Additionally, this study can contribute valuable insights for the development of inclusive and encouraging learning environments for dealing with body dysmorphic issues. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM heart of the research defines the specific issue or problem that your study seeks to address the general and specific problems or objectives are presented the introductory statement in this section is usually the general problem or goal based from the research title followed by specific problems or objectives that will be thoroughly studied in the course of the research STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM ▪RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: stated in declarative sentences ▪RESEARCH PROBLEM: a statement about an area of concern, a condition to be improved, a difficulty to be eliminated ▪RESEARCH QUESTION: stated in interrogative form Clearly states the purpose or STATEMENT interest of the RESEARCH OF THE study. It poses QUESTIONS specific questions PROBLEM about the research problem. You must remember that research questions and the research problem must be intertwined. EXAMPLE OF STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM Title: INFLUENCE OF BODY DYSMORPHIA ON STUDENTS’ SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS (Rabang et al., 2023) The general objective of the study is to achieve insights on the influence of body dysmorphia to senior high school students’ senses of belongingness. Specifically, the researchers sought to find answers to the following research questions: 1. What body dysmorphia traits are most prevalent among senior high students? 2. What triggers body dysmorphia among students in a school setting? 3. How does body dysmorphia affect senior high students’ relationship with their peers in school? 4. How do the students cope with body dysmorphia? SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY explains why your research matters highlights the potential impact and value of your research findings, not just for your field, but also for practical applications Contribution to Knowledge: Discuss how your study will add to the existing body of knowledge. Practical Implications: Explain how your findings can be applied in real- world settings. Beneficiaries: Identify who will benefit from your research. This could include specific groups (e.g., educators, policymakers) or the broader community. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY each beneficiary should contain a discussion or description of the specific benefits of the research to the beneficiary divided into two parts: introductory statements and presentation of the beneficiaries Methods of presenting beneficiaries Hierarchy (Example) According to importance (Example) a. Researchers EXAMPLE OF SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Title: INFLUENCE OF BODY DYSMORPHIA ON STUDENTS’ SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS (Rabang et al., 2023) The study focused on explaining the influence of body dysmorphia on senior high students’ sense of belongingness in Ilocos Norte National High School. Moreover, the results of the study will be beneficial to the following: Students. The result of this study will allow students to be more aware about body dysmorphia and develop better relationships with each other, creating a supportive and empathic environment in school. Teachers. The findings of this study can bring more awareness to teachers as well as providing educational initiatives on body positivity and mental health that contributes in empowering the students with knowledge and coping strategies. Future Researchers. The findings of this study will serve as a reference and guide for future researchers who desire to conduct the same investigation connected to the sense of belongingness of students with body dysmorphia. SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONS Scope: clearly define the extent of your study in terms of content, geographical area, population, and time frame specify which variables will be examined and in what context briefly describe the research design, methods, and approaches used to collect and analyze data Delimitations: ‘limits’ or boundaries of the research explain what will not be covered in the study and why Guidelines on How to Write a Scope WHY WHAT WHERE WHEN WHO HOW How to Start Writing Your Study Scope This study is to focus on… This study covers the… This study aims to… How to Start Writing Your Study Delimitations This study does not cover… This study is limited to… The following has been excluded from this study… EXAMPLE OF SCOPE AND DELIMITATION Title: INFLUENCE OF BODY DYSMORPHIA ON STUDENTS’ SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS (Rabang et al., 2023) This study aims to investigate the prevalence of body dysmorphia traits among the senior high students of Ilocos Norte National High School for the school year 2023-2024. This study focuses to explore the factors triggering body dysmorphia and how body dysmorphia impacts the relationships between the students and their peers in a school environment. Additionally, the researchers will explore the coping mechanisms employed by these students to deal with body dysmorphia. The data will be accumulated on 8 respondents through an interview with open-ended questions. The said interview is set in the premises of Ilocos Norte National High School in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. However, the research does not included the examination of other psychological disorders or problems, nor does it apply to college students or those with other degrees of education. The researchers intend to provide useful insights and consequences within the stated topic of their study, primarily relevant to senior high students and teachers. DEFINITION OF TERMS provides clear and precise definitions for key terms used in your study ensures that readers have a common understanding of important concepts and terminology arrange alphabetically no need for lengthy definition CONCEPTUAL DEFINITION: explains the meaning of a particular term using the dictionary OPERATIONAL DEFINITION: describes a term by how the researcher used it in their study Example: ADDICTION CONCEPTUAL: Addiction is when you have a strong physical or psychological need or urge to do something or use something. OPERATIONAL: Addiction is an extreme dependence on something or an activity that sometimes can cause you harm. EXAMPLE OF DEFINITION OF TERMS Title: INFLUENCE OF BODY DYSMORPHIA ON STUDENTS’ SENSE OF BELONGINGNESS (Rabang et al., 2023) The following terminologies are defined in light of their relevance to this study: Beauty standards. A set of societal rules that indicates what should be accepted in terms of physical appearance to rightfully fit in a community. Body dysmorphia.
