## Materials of Decoration Halogens come in many different forms, but these are the most common types. ### Floodlights - A floodlight is a broad-beamed, high intensity bulb. - They are often used to illuminate outdoor playing fields. - More focused kinds are used as stage lighting instruments such as for concerts and plays. - The halogen type comes in 2 kinds, soft glass and heavy glass. - The soft glass looks just like the average incandescent bulb and is labeled "R" or "BR". - The "R" stands for reflector, meaning they contain a built-in reflecting surface that maximizes the direction of the light that the bulb emits. - These are for indoor use only. - The heavy glass type is labeled "PAR", which stands for "parabolic aluminized reflector." - This is made using an aluminized reflector that is parabolic in shape. - Unlike the soft glass types, this can be used indoors or outdoors as it is able to stand up to severe weather. - These bulbs have a wide coverage, and additionally, it is the only halogen light bulb style covered with glass thick enough to withstand harsh weather conditions. ### J Type Bulb - This is double ended and commonly used as security lighting. - This is available in different voltages and sizes, with lengths ranging from 78-254 mm. - When handling, it should not touch bare skin. Not because it could damage the skin, but rather the natural oils of the human skin can reduce the life of the bulb. ### JC Type - This is a low voltage bulb, commonly found under counters, in desk lamps, or as accent lighting. - They come in capsule shape, with 2 pins at the base. - They have 2 different sizes, and just like the J type, it shouldn't come in contact with bare skin since it could damage the bulb. ### JCD Type - They are commonly used in under-counter lighting, desk lamps, accent lighting or pendant lighting. - Similar to JC type since they have pins at the end, but different since they use a higher voltage. - They come in 3 different sizes, G6.35, G8, and G9, with the numbers denoting the distance of the pins from each other in mm. - Also, the G9 types uses loops at the end, instead of pins. - This type comes in frosted or clear glass, and should be handled with gloves. ### JDD Type - These are generally used in the food service industry and comes in the standard base size. - They have a halogen filament that is enclosed in glass, and then surrounded again by an overall glass jacket. ### JDR Type - These are small reflector floodlights that are commonly used in range hoods or as track lighting. - They come in clear or frosted glass finishes, and can be purchased with or without a glass cover. - They are either screw-in, or with GU10 or GU5.3 (MR 16) bases. - The GU3.5 uses a lower voltage than the GU10.
