### Sources of Stress - **Conflicts** may occur between two or more incompatible needs, for example, whether to study dance or psychology. - **Internal pressures** stem from beliefs based upon expectations from inside us to ourselves. For example, believing we must do everything perfectly can lead to disappointment. - **Social pressures** are brought about from people who make excessive demands on us, which can cause even greater pressure when we have to work with them. - **Social stress** is induced externally and results from our interaction with other people. - **Social events** such as death or illness in the family, strained relationships, and trouble with neighbours can all cause social stress. - These events are very subjective. For example, some people find attending parties stressful whereas others find it stressful to stay at home. ### Life Events - Changes, both big and small, sudden and gradual, affect our lives from the moment we are born. - We can cope with small everyday changes, but major life events can be stressful because they disrupt our routine and cause upheaval. - Unexpected life events can be difficult to cope with.
