Teaching as a Profession, Vocation and Mission What is your views in teaching? 1. It is important for us to understand that teachers are products of the family where they belong. The family values and the home environment that shaped their belief, character and personal values are reflected in their personality, values and personal philosophy. 2. Teachers need to recognized also shaped by society where they live. (cultures, values, norms, religions, and environment are influentials in shaping their life. 3. Teachers as servant leaders in the community. Teaching as Profession ====================== 1. It simply means teachers should master the subject they are teaching and they know how to teach it effectively. c. **Knowledge of the learners-**teachers should understand the characteristics of learners. d. **General Pedagogical Knowledge-**teachers should understand the general theories and principles of teaching. e. **Knowledge of educational contexts**-teachers should understand educational contexts of learners in school (cultural, political, educational context, economic) that shape and influence education. f. **Curriculum Knowledge-** teachers need to have knowledge and appreciation of the curriculum, curriculum models, innovations, curriculum designs, materials, assessment and curriculum process. g. **Knowledge of educational ends, purposes and values**- teachers should understand the principles, theories and purposes of education. Mouth- to speak the truth, discuss knowledge, and speak wisdom to students. 7. **FEET**- to walk with the students, explore the surroundings and discover new knowledge and information 8. **NOSE**- to breath deeply and relax when feeling tired and pressured. THE PROFESSIONAL TEACHER ======================== - The Teachers Professional and Personal relationships with others are governed with various laws such as: The Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers, Batas Pambansa 232, and Magna Carta for Public School Teachers. - Teachers provide personal, caring attitudes to the students by diagnosing their needs and by planning, selecting and using methods and evaluation procedures designed to promote effective learning. - The process of teaching includes understanding and adhering to legal and legislated frameworks and policies by developing understanding of the social regard for learning, learning environment, diversity of learners, curriculum, planning, assessing and reporting, community linkages and professional growth and personal development. - The National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS) is a professional development guide for teachers. It is a theoretical framework that defines the various dimensions of effective teaching and the aspects of teacher professional development. We are sent into the world to accomplish a mission. Teaching is your mission means it is the task entrusted to you in this world. Every teacher has its own unique mission, purpose, or objective that they need to accomplish.
