Heavy importance on owning possessions because they did not have to spend as much time farming. They were made up of many clans and each group had its own language. Their territory spread from Alaska to Oregon. They had many resources including salmon, mammals, plentiful trees, and lots of berries and roots. They used trees for canoes, houses, and clothing. Traveled everywhere by canoe. They used large canoes for carrying goods and smaller canoes for individual families. Cedar was heavily used to make totem poles and houses. Winter -> homes made of cedar planks Summer -> homes made from woven reeds Killed whales and used every part of it. Some tribes were warlike and tried to enslave other tribes. During the spring and summer, they moved in land for gathering and hunting. They collected enough food during these seasons to last through winter. The most important food source was salmon.
