The effluent export pump will trip on sump low level, the sump need to be kept at low level to prevent the sump overflowing in the event of a sudden rain storm or chemical spillage. Two actuating valves are fitted on the inlet line to the sump, the purpose of these valves are to divert the effluent into the sump or to bypass the sump especially when it is raining to prevent recovering rain water. (This it to reduce the effluent volumes) There are a few different scenarios that will determine the recovery process. Prill fall out, especially after winter. At least four hours recovery is needed or if W14 conductivity is low, recovery can be stopped. Rain fall frequency during summer, once a week, twice a week and every afternoon etc. at least one hour recovery or if W14 conductivity is low, recovery can be stopped. Continuous rain fall for few days, only recover the first hour and keep eye on W14 conductivity, let it go if the conductivity is low. Effluent dumping from Prill Plants, recover all if possible. Effluent Conductivity through W14 effluent meter to be monitored all the time. Main effluent Sources: No.9 Nitric Acid: Draining & purging of Evaporator Emptying the Drip Acid Pits, at the Nitric Acid Stock Tanks, at the Column and at the Torpedo Tanks next to DCS. Draining Nitric Acid systems for Maintenance Tanker Loading Area, nitric Acid Spillages. Overflowing of Nitric Acid Stock tanks No.11 Nitric Acid: Purging and draining of the Evaporator Draining Ammonia lines for Maintenance Pumping Drip acid Pit empty Purging of Heat Exchangers every four hours Overflowing of Nitric Acid Stock tanks ANS Plants: Draining Nitric Acid systems and Pumps for Maintenance Draining ANS Systems for Maintenance Dumping A/N Condensate when Tank Full or if No.11 is off line. Draining & Steam out ANS lines to prevent chocking of ANS. Draining Nitric Acid pumps and lines on the ANSSER plant for Maintenance Overflowing of Nitric Acid Stock tanks Overflowing of ANS Stock tanks Bulk Store Pit: Pumping the bulk store pit empty after washing or rain. Prilling Plants 3&4: Start-up Effluent, draining of VO2 to warm up system. Draining of ANS Lines and Pumps for Maintenance 114 Draining of Sulphate Pumps and Lines. Dissolving Ammonium Nitrate Prills with Effluent water. Draining Steam Systems for maintenance. Recycle Effluent Scrubber Effluent Washing of systems for Maintenance; Elevators, Ducting’s, Tower Bottom etc. Purging of the Spray heads.
