HSMS (Health & Safety Management System) is a management framework that provides a systematic approach that can be used by any organization to continuously improve its health & safety performance to achieve efficiencies and better environment, health, and safety outcomes. 3 What is the need to have a health and safety management system at the workplace? (already discussed in LO 1.3) Mainly THREE (3) reasons: 1. Moral or Humanitarian Reasons: Duty of Reasonable Care 2. Legal Reasons: - To avoid prosecution and compensation claims - To avoid enforcement notices for any violations - To avoid any fines and imprisonment for breaches - To avoid paying compensation 3. Financial Reasons: To avoid all costs hidden behind an accident at workplace - Accident investigation cost - Payment for non-productive days - Insurance / Legal cost 4 Benefits of having an effective Health & Safety Management System at the workplace: 1.
