A National Artist is a Filipino citizen who has been given the rank and title of National Artist Getting to know them... in recognition of his or her significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts and letters. National Artist are given a Grand Collar. Getting to know them... The highest national recognition given to Filipinos who have made distinct contributions in the field of arts and letters. It is jointly administered by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Getting to know them... and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and is conferred by the President of the Philippines upon recommendation by both institutions. EMBLEM EMBLEM The Order of National Artists of the Philippines is an order bestowed by the Philippines on Filipinos who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine art. EMBLEM Members of the Order are known as National Artists. Originally instituted as an award, it was elevated to the status of an order in 2003. EMBLEM The insignia of the Order of the National Artists is composed of a Grand Collar(silver gilt bronze) featuring circular links portraying the arts, and an eight-pointed conventionalized sunburst EMBLEM suspended from a sampaguita wreath in green and white enamel. The central badge is a medallion divided into three equal portions. EMBLEM EMBLEM …red, white, and blue, recalling the Philippine flag, with three stylized letter Ks—the “KKK” stands for the CCP’s motto: EMBLEM “katotohanan, kabutihan, at kagandahan” (“the true, the good, and the beautiful”), as coined by then first lady Mrs. Imelda Romualdez Marcos, the CCP’s founder. Criteria for the Order of National Artist (5) 1. Living artist who are Filipino citizens at the time of nomination, as well as those who died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death. Criteria for the Order of National Artist 2. Artist who through the content and form of their works, have contributed in building a Filipino sense of nationhood; Criteria for the Order of National Artist 3. Artist who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, thus earning distinction and making an impact on succeeding generations of artist; Criteria for the Order of National Artist 4. Artist who have created a substantial and significant body of work and/ or consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form thus enriching artistic expression or style; and Criteria for the Order of National Artist 5. Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition, awards in prestigious national and/or international events, Criteria for the Order of National Artist critical acclaim and/or reviews of their works, and/or respect and esteem from peers within an artistic discipline. CATEGORIES Music – singing, composition, direction, and/or performance; Dance – choreography, direction and/or performance; Theater – direction, performance and/or production design; CATEGORIES Contemporary Arts – painting, sculpture, print-making, photography, installation art, mixed media, illustration, graphic arts, performance art and/or imaging. CATEGORIES Literature – poetry, fiction, essay, playwriting, journalism and/or literary criticism; Film and Broadcast Arts – direction, writing, production design, cinematography, editing, camera work/performance. CATEGORIES Architecture, Design and Allied Arts – arch itectu re d esig n , interior design, industrial arts design, landscape architecture and fashion design. BENEFITS 1. The rank and title of National Artist, as proclaimed by the President of the Philippines; 2. The insignia of a National Artist and a citation; BENEFITS 3.
