Filipino National Artists

• The Order of National Artists of the Philippines is an order bestowed on Filipinos who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine art.
• Members of the Order are known as National Artists.
• The award was originally an award, but was elevated to the status of an order in 2003.
• The insignia of the Order of the National Artists has a Grand Collar (silver gilt bronze) with circular links portraying the arts, and an eight-pointed sunburst.
• The insignia is suspended from a sampaguita wreath in green and white enamel.
• The central badge of the insignia is a medallion divided into three equal portions.
• The colors reflect the Philippine flag (red, white, and blue) .
• The three stylized letter Ks stand for the CCP's motto: "katotohanan, kabutihan, at kagandahan" ("the true, the good, and the beautiful").
• The motto was coined by Imelda Romualdez Marcos, the CCP's founder.
• National Artists are Filipino citizens who were nominated at the time of their nomination or who died after the award was established in 1972 but were citizens at the time of their death

• National artists contribute to a sense of nationhood.
• National artists pioneer in a mode of creative expression or style, impacting future generations of artists..
• National artists have created a substantial and significant body of work and/or consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form.
• National artists have broad acceptance through prestigious national and/or international recognition, awards in prestigious national and/or international events, critical acclaim and/or reviews of their works, and/or respect and esteem from peers within an artistic discipline.

• Music: Singing, composition, direction, and/or performance
• Dance: Choreography, direction, and/or performance
• Theater: Direction, performance and/or production design
• Contemporary Arts: Painting, sculpture, print-making, photography, installation art, mixed media, illustration, graphic arts, performance art and/or imaging
• Literature: Poetry, fiction, essay, playwriting, journalism and/or literary criticism
• Film and Broadcast Arts: Direction, writing, production design, cinematography, editing, camera work/performance
• Architecture, Design and Allied Arts: Architecture design, interior design, industrial arts design, landscape architecture and fashion design .

Benefits

• The rank and title of National Artist, proclaimed by the President of the Philippines.
• The insignia of a National Artist and a citation.
• Lifetime emoluments and material and physical benefits comparable to those received by the highest officers of the land, such as a cash award of ₱100,000.00 (net of taxes), for living awardees.
• A cash award of ₱75,000.00-₱150,000.00 (net of taxes), for posthumous awardees payable to legal heirs.
• A monthly life pension (₱30,000.00), medical, and hospitalization benefits (₱750,000.00/year).
• Life insurance coverage for awardees who are still insurable.
• A state funeral and burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
• Protocol precedence at national functions and cultural events.
