Filipino National Artists

  • The Order of National Artists of the Philippines is an order bestowed on Filipinos who have made significant contributions to the development of Philippine art.
  • Members of the Order are known as National Artists.
  • The award was originally an award, but was elevated to the status of an order in 2003.
  • The insignia of the Order of the National Artists has a Grand Collar (silver gilt bronze) with circular links portraying the arts, and an eight-pointed sunburst.
  • The insignia is suspended from a sampaguita wreath in green and white enamel.
  • The central badge of the insignia is a medallion divided into three equal portions.
  • The colors reflect the Philippine flag (red, white, and blue) .
  • The three stylized letter Ks stand for the CCP's motto: "katotohanan, kabutihan, at kagandahan" ("the true, the good, and the beautiful").
  • The motto was coined by Imelda Romualdez Marcos, the CCP's founder.
