SEC 111 L/O Describe the main purpose of the Main L/O system? o Purpose is to cool and lubricate the Main Reduction Gear and associated subsystems. How does the Main L/O system interface with the following systems? o -Gas turbine L/O system ▪ Main L/O System (2190) cools synthetic L/O (23699) via shell and tube type cooler. o -Main Reduction Gear ▪ Cools and lubricates the Main Reduction Gears. o -Main Thrust Bearing ▪ Cools and lubricates the Main Thrust Bearing. 3) Describe the Function and location of the following major components. o L/O Service pumps ▪ 2 attached LOSP’s. Located in MER1 and MER2 inboard side of MRG. Function is to provide L/O pressure at higher SRPM, normally with a STBY pump in fast speed. A total of 4 stby pumps. 1A, 1B STBY pumps located MER 1 L/L used for redundancy. 2A, 2B STBY Pumps located Mer2 L/L also used for redundancy. o L/O cooler ▪ 2 L/O coolers. Function is to cool MRG L/O (2190) with SW via shell and tube type cooler. Location, Mer1 and Mer2 M/L aft of the MRG. o L/O heater ▪ 2 L/O Heaters. Function is to heat oil to make less viscous so it is easier to clean (purify). Location, Mer1 L/L by Lube Oil Purifier. Mer2 M/L next to Hydraulic Oil Power Module (HOPM). o L/O storage tanks ▪ A total of 6 Storage Tanks. Location, 3 in Mer1 and 3 in Mer2 M/L Out Board Side. Function of the storage tanks is to store new (2190) L/O for equipment replenishment. L/O Settling Tanks o A total of 4 L/O Settling Tanks. Location, 2 in Mer1 and 2 in Mer2 M/L outboard side. Function of the Settling Tanks is to heat up contaminated oil to easily separate particulate matter to settle to the bottom. SEC 114 Bleed, Masker, Prairie Air Fundamentals. State the function of the following o -Bleed Air ▪ Bleed Air is used for S.P.A.M. Start Air- Used to start other engines. Prairie Air- used to mask propeller signature. Anti-icing- used to prevent ice build- up in out Air Intake System during icing conditions ( 41F @ 70% relative humidity) Masker Air- used to mask ships equipment signature. State the source of the above system (Bleed Air). o Bleed Air is extracted from 16th stage compressor of your Main Engine (LM2500) and 14th stage compressor of your SSGTG (501-K34). State where the above systems are monitored and controlled. o Bleed Air is controlled and monitored on all 4 UCC except Anti- Icing. ▪ Anti-Icing is monitored on all 4 UCC but controlled in the spaces locally in Aux1 (1GTG), Mer1 (1A, 1B GTM), Mer2 (2A, 2B GTM) and 3 GEN. State the Location of the following components. o Prairie and Masker Air cooler ▪ There are 2 sets of these coolers located in Mer1 and Mer2 outboard side U/L. o Masker Air Emitter Belts ▪ Mer1 provides Bleed air for the fwd 2 Masker Air belts (Frames 122, 172), and Mer2 provides Bleed Air for Masker Air Belt on (Frame 232), Fair water and Rope Guard. SEC 118 Compressed Air Fundamentals Describe the uses of the following. o LPAC (Low Pressure Air Compressor) Low Pressure Air is used for multiple things aboard this ship. Pneumatic tools, Valves, cooling, and various vital systems throughout the ship. Describe the type and location of the following major components. o -LPAC (Low Pressure Air Compressor) ▪ There are 3 RIX STAR 200 LPAC’s. Nr 1 LPAC is located in Mer1 M/L, 2and 3 LPAC’s are located in Mer2 M/L. o -Air Dehydrators ▪ There are 3 Air Dehydrators, one per LPAC. Location- next to its associated LPAC. Function- To remove moisture from the LP Air. State the Normal Operating Pressures Modes. o -Lead Mode- 115-125 psi o -Lag Mode- 110-120psi o -STBY Mode- 105-115psi Discuss the function and location of the Priority Valves? o Location ▪ There are 2 Priority Valves located in Mer1 and Mer2 M/L next to the Air Receiver o Function The function of the Priority Valve is when the ship is utilizing to much non-vital air for example pneumatic tools, the Priority Valve will fully shut at 85psid and direct all air to vital systems such as wave guides, Leslie Valves, and Vent dampeners.
