They lived on opposite sides of the Paraná River. - Their people traded crafts, shared hunting and fishing grounds and celebrated feasts together. - One day Mandió suggested to Pirayú that they unify their tribes through marriage. - Mandió asked Pirayú to give him his daughter to marry so that their people could be unified. - Pirayú refused because his daughter Caranda-i was in love with the Sun god. - Caranda-i spent hours looking at the Sun and became very sad when the sky was cloudy. - Mandió was furious. - He threatened Pirayú with his anger. - Pirayú worried because he knew that his people were in danger. - Nothing happened for a long time. - One afternoon, Caranda-i went out in her canoe to watch the sun set. - She noticed that her village was on fire. - She tried to go back ashore but Mandió caught her. - He forced to marry him. - Caranda-i prayed to the Sun god for help. - The Sun god sent a powerful hurricane, which engulfed Mandió and caused Caranda-i to vanish. - After the storm passed, a tall plant with a large yellow flower grew in the same spot. - It turned to follow the sun just like Caranda-i had. - The Guaraní people believe that the sunflower was born from Caranda-i. ## Vocabulario y comprensión ### 1.
