Lecture 7 Presentation skills What is effective presentation skills? Presentation can be defined as a formal event characterized by teamwork and use of audio- visual aids. A good presentation should have: 1. a good subject matter 2. should match with the objective 3. should best fit the audience 4. should be well organized. What are the 4 types of presentation? Types of Presentations 1. Informative: Keep an informative presentation brief and to the point. 2. Instructional: Your purpose in an instructional presentation is to give specific directions or orders. 3. Arousing: Your purpose in an arousing presentation is to make people think about a certain problem or situation. 4. Persuasive: Decision-making. How presentation skills can be improved? A surefire way to enhance your presentations skills is to practice in front of people who are skilled at speaking and are willing to tell you what you need to know and do. To improve upon what you've read and learned, you must be willing to accept constructive criticism and apply it How do you start a good presentation? Organize Your Introduction Correctly Welcome your audience and introduce yourself. Capture their attention. Identify your number one goal or topic of presentation. Give a quick outline of your presentation. Top Tips for Effective Presentations Show your Passion and Connect with your Audience. Focus on your Audience's Needs. Keep it Simple: Concentrate on your Core Message. Smile and Make Eye Contact with your Audience. Start Strongly. Tell Stories. Use your Voice Effectively. Content VS Delivery? Don’t talk to your slides Practice Train to stay within the time limit Ask your buddy team What are the 3 parts of a presentation? All types of presentations consist of three basic parts: 1. The introduction 2. The body 3. The conclusion In general, the introduction should be about 10-15% of your speaking time, the body around 75%, and the conclusion only 10%. Presentation tips Fewer slides Fewer words Font size +30 Be visual Emphasize how important it is to keep the slides simple – don’t put a lot of text on them.. The audience can read the slides faster than you can talk! You want the focus to be on you as the presenter, not on the slides.. Don’t have the slides be your speaker notes, that’s not the point with visual aids, the slides should only help the audience remember your talk.. Be as visual as possible (use pictures instead of words) Fewer bullets
