Of all the places in the Philippines why was Rizal exiled in Dapitan? Dapitan was chosen because of it’s geographical remoteness making it difficult for Rizal to connect with his supporters and engage in revolutionary activities. Rizal’s exile in dapitan On July 17,1892, the steamer Cebu arrived in Dapitan with Rizal with a letter from Fr. Pablo Pastell a superior of the Jesuits Society. The letter contained given by Fr. Pastell’s to Fr. Obach for Rizal to be allowed to live in the parish convent.
