ENGLISH CLASS INTERPRETING INFORMATION PRESENTED THROUGH TABLES AND GRAPHS 2ND QUARTER O B J E C T I V E S : Identify the diagrams used in presenting data Explain the visual-verbal relationships illustrated in tables found in expository texts. Interpret information presented through tables Various types of information are presented in the different print and non-print materials such as newspaper articles, television programs, or online social sites. There are times that information are accompanied with tables so that lengthy and wordy presentations can be avoided, which enable the audience to process data faster. This means that one has to acquire skills in interpreting facts and figures organized in table formats in order to fully figure out the intended meaning or purpose of the material. REPRESENTATIONAL DIAGRAMS These are tools that help an individual to calculate, analyze, predict, and understand the given information. TABLE CHART GRAPH TABLE A representational display of data in rows and columns. TABLE chart An illustrative presentation of information. It is used to explain the relationship between a large quantity of data and its parts. pie chart It represents data concerning the proportion of a whole (pie) which is divided into segments or “slices” to illustrate portion of the whole. pie chart Usually, the segments are arranged from biggest to smallest value in a clockwise formation. pie chart line chart It constitutes a series of data points connected by straight lines that show trends, changes, and relationships in data over a continuous interval, often time. line chart graph It is a visual display of appraisals over grids (horizontal and vertical lines) that provide an easy way to view interpretation of all the values. bar graph It contains a vertical axis and horizontal axis and displays data as rectangular bars with lengths proportional to the values that they represent. bar graph pictograph It is a representation of numerical data using images, icons, or symbols is called a pictograph. In pictographs, we arrange the symbols in a line to show data or information. The lines can be vertical and go from bottom to top or horizontal and go from side to side. THANK YOU!
