Immediate Dentures Patient Instruction First 24 hours: → Your immediate dentures may be uncomfortable. You may experience difficulty in eating, swallowing and speaking. The dentures should not be removed in the first 24 hours and you should wear them to sleep for the first 24 hours. The dentures will keep the swelling down. → If you see bleeding, this is generally minor but may look worse as is mixed with your saliva. → Cold compress and cold soft food is preferred in the first 24 hours. → Do not rinse or take hot water rinses in the first 24 hours. Do not use straws for drinking. → Do not smoke [ [ [ [ [ [ 1. Immediate dentures must be worn for the first 24 hours without removal.If they are removed, they may not be able to be reinserted for 3 to 4 days. 2. After the 24-hour visit, you will be shown how to remove the denture after eating to clean it, and to rinse the mouth at least three to four times daily to keep the extraction sites clean 3. The esthetics are less predictable with immediate dentures because of lack of an anterior try-in. 4. The pain of the extractions, in addition to the sore spots caused by the immediate denture, will make the first week or two after insertion difficult. Your dentist will see you to make your dentures more comfortable. 5. Immediate dentures may need temporary linings with tissue conditioners 6. As the swelling subsides in 2-3 days, you must take your dentures out at night. 7. After 1 week, sutures can be removed (If applicable). 8. Because supporting tissue changes are unpredictable, immediate dentures may loosen up after 6 months and you may require a reline or new dentures.
