Furthermore, Spaniards Added the prefix “Y” in addition to the work “Look” thus forms the word “Y-looc” which literaly means “From lowland coves”; and by adding suffix “-ano” to refer to the dwellers thus forms “Y-looc-ano/s” in which literaly means “dwellers of the lowland coves” infers to the inhabitants. Summary: “Looc” -> “Y-looc” -> Y-looc-anos” -> Ilocos / Ilocanos (now) ref: https://mis.ilocossur.gov.ph History In 1571, when the Spanish conquistadors had established the Spanish City of Manila, they began looking for new centers of administration to conquer. Legaspi’s grandson, Juan De Salcedo, volunteered to lead one of these expeditions. Together with 8 armed boats and 45 men, the 22 years old voyager headed towards the north. ref: https://mis.ilocossur.gov.ph LET’S TALK ABOUT REGION 1 It is known as “Ilocos Region” Composed of: 4 Major Provinces 9 cities Municipalities: 116 Barangays: 3,267 Located at northwestern region portion of Luzon.
