In the beginning of each lesson. You will review related topics. Then you will discover what the learning episodes is about. After the presentation of concepts, you will do self-check exercise that will lead you to an application task. Finally, you will be guided in managing your takeaways. Identify the parts of the Microsoft Windows 10 desktop screen. **Pre-test** Directions: Read the statements carefully. Write the word HAPPY if the statement is correct and write the word SAD if the statement is false. \_\_\_\_ 1. The main screen you see when you turn your computer on is called the *desktop*. **\_\_\_\_ 2.** Desktop is the primary user interface of a computer. \_\_\_\_ 3. The first, and most important, part is the 'work area'. \_\_\_\_ 4. Task bar to search anything in your PC. \_\_\_\_ 5. To **unsnap a window**, simply click and drag the window \_\_\_\_\_\_. \_\_\_\_ 2. Instead of keeping everything open on the same desktop, you can move some of your windows to a **\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_** to get them out of the way. \_\_\_\_ 3. You\'ll use the **\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_** to manage your files and folders. \_\_\_\_ 4. This feature wasn\'t available in previous versions of Windows, and it\'s especially helpful for managing a lot of windows at the same time. \_\_\_\_ 5. You can press **Windows key+Tab** on your keyboard. \_\_\_\_ 6. It allows you to resize windows quickly, which is especially convenient when you want to see two windows side by side. \_\_\_\_ 7. It makes it easy to manage all your open windows. \_\_\_\_ 8. Instead of keeping everything open on the same desktop, you can move some of your windows to a virtual desktop to get them out of the way. \_\_\_\_ 9. To do this, click and drag the** desired window** to the left or right until the cursor reaches the edge of the screen, then release the mouse. \_\_\_\_ 10. To do this, press and hold the **Alt **key on your keyboard, then press the **Tab** key. When you boot your computer, the desktop dislodges when the startup process is complete. This includes desktop backgrounds (or wallpapers) and icons of files and folders that you may have saved on the desktop. **Parts Of The Desktop Screen Of Microsoft Windows 10** ### ***1) Work Area:*** The first, and most important, part is the 'work area', which forms the bulk of the computer screen. ### ***2) Desktop Icons*** The icon on the desktop consists of applications. By default, you have a few icons on your computer and you can add your own icons with it. If you use some computer programs, now commonly known as 'applications' or 'apps', you can often make them easier to access by placing their icons anywhere on the 'desktop' as shortcuts. ### ***3) Start Menu*** The Start menu is like a road map for your computer. It lets you launch applications, power off your computer, access system settings, and more. The new Start menu in Windows 10 is divided into two sections. On the left side there is a navigation section which gives you access to your users account; Your most used apps; System features such as file explorer, settings, and power; And the rest of your apps (via the All Apps command).\ \ On the right is a scaled down version of the Windows 8 / 8.1 start screen that provides quick viewing and access to tiles of some apps. *[The Stockart menu has the following components:]* --------------------------------------------------------------- ### ***i) Tiles:*** The rectangles that appear on the right side of the start menu each represent an item on your PC --- most tiles represent apps, but you can also add tiles to folders and websites --- and you click on the tile to launch that item We do. Tiles can appear in one of four sizes. ### ***ii) Live Tiles:*** Many of the start menu tiles are "live" in the sense that they display frequently-updated information rather than app icons. For example, the Weather tile shows the current weather for your default location; Mail tile resents display email messages; And the calendar tile shows your upcoming programs. Note that these tiles do not disassemble any live content unless you use them at least once. ### ***4) Taskbar:*** There is a dark narrow band under the desktop. This is the taskbar. This bar at the bottom of the screen displays icons for each running app. ### ***5) Search box:*** You use this box to search anything in your PC.
