Diffusion by Marwa Mansour Alzoghayer Methods of crossing the cell membrane Diffusion: Is the movement of particles (solutes) or different molecules from high concentration of solute to low concentration of solute. Diffusion rate: the diffusion through a unit of time(the change in the number of diffusing molecules inside the cell over time). Factors Affecting Diffusion Temperature Concentration Gradient Molecular weight pressure time Higher temp, faster diffusion.Higher gradient, faster lower Molecular weight , Higher pressure, diffusion. faster diffusion. faster diffusion. Experiments aims To discuss the importance and functions of the cell 1 membrane to know the factors that affecting the rate of 2 diffusion of the materials to the cell membrane Osmosis Osmosis is the movement of solvent molecules through a semipermeable membrane from a region of lower solute concentration to a region of higher solute concentration, equalizing the concentrations on both sides. Osmotic solutions There are three types of osmotic solution : 1) isotonic solution is one that has the same concentration of solutes both inside and outside the cell. An example to isotonic solution for red blood cells is 0.9% NaCl, you can consider the same for plant cell in our experiment. 2) hypertonic solution is one that has a higher solute concentration outside the cell than inside. 3) hypotonic solution is one that has a lower solute concentration outside the cell than inside. Osmosis in Plant Cells Cell Wall Structure Plant cells have a rigid cell wall that exerts turgor pressure during osmosis. Uptake of Water Osmosis causes water to move into the plant cell, maintaining its rigidity and shape. Osmosis in Animal Cells Cell Membrane Function Regulates water and solute movement for cellular processes and stability. Importance in Health Osmosis ensures cells are properly hydrated and functioning optimally.
