It is a physical property of matter. Each substance has its own unique density. It is measured in g/cm3 or g/mL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mwC2cqGFU (4 min video on Density) Density.notebook February 24, 2023 Mass is how much matter it contains in grams or kilograms. 3 3 Volume is how much space something takes up in mL, L, cm or m. Materials with a high density have more particles packed into a smaller space. Density.notebook February 24, 2023 To solve problems with density, use the formula: d = m m V d V d = density units: g/cm3 (solid) or g/mL (liquid) m = mass units grams (g) V = volume units cm3 (solid) or mL (liquid) GRAB YOUR TEXTBOOK PLEASE - WE WILL NEED A CHART IN IT FOR THE EXAMPLES. For full marks I expect to see proper form: 1. Write down equation 2. Put numbers into equation (use triangle to figure this out) 3. Give answer with units 4. Write a therefore sentence Density.notebook February 24, 2023 Examples: 1. The mass of a cube is 96.5 g. If the volume of the unknown substance is 5 cm3, find the density and name the material (see Table 1 on p.193). Steps: m 1. Write down what you know d V 2. Cross out what you are solving for in triangle to make equation 3. Write down equation, substitute numbers, do math 4. Write therefore sentence 2. An aluminum bar (density 2.70 g/cm3) is 8.0 cm long, 3.2 cm wide and 1.5 cm high. Calculate the mass of the bar. m d V Density.notebook February 24, 2023 3. A liquid has a density of 8.8 g/mL and a mass of 21.1 g. What is the volume is of the liquid? m d V Homework pg. 198 #4 8 Check answers on pg 658 (like you do in math)
