Digital Computers: - Operate essentially by counting. All quantities are expressed as discrete or numbers. Analog Computers:- An analog computer is a form of computer that uses the continuously changeable aspects of physical phenomena such as electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic quantities to model the problem being solved. Hybrid Computers:- are computers that exhibit features of analog computers and digital computers. (CMOS) - CMOS is a small amount of memory in a computer's motherboard that stores the data saved in the BIOS settings. (Application Server) – It is a computer that is dedicated to running network-aware application software. (Basic Input Output System) – BIOS stands for Basic Input Output System (Power on Self-Test) – POST stands for Power on Self-Test (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor) – CMOS stands for Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (BIOS) - BIOS is a ROM chip found on motherboards that lets you access and set up your computer system. (most basic level) (BIOS set-up) BIOS set-up is a configuration program that lets you configure hardware settings, including system settings, such as date, time, and computer passwords. It is also sometimes referred to as CMOS set-up. (Bootstrap loader) Bootstrap loader is the function of BIOS that initiates the Operating System. (:) - To switch drives in the Windows command line just type the letter drive followed by a colon (:). (Microsoft Disk Operating System) - MS-DOS stands for Microsoft Disk Operating System. Page 1 of 4 (Change Directory) - CD stand for change directory in MS-DOS. (cd..) – cd.. is the command used to go back to a directory in MS-DOS. (MS-DOS) – MS-DOS is a non-graphical command line operating system that was created for IBM compatible computers (CPU) – CPU stands for central processing unit. (GPU) – GPU stand for graphics processing unit. (dir command) – dir command is the command if you want to see the list of files in a specific folder in MS-DOS (Virtualization) - refers to the creation of a virtual machine that acts like a real computer with an operating system. (Host Machine) - The host machine is the actual machine on which the virtualization takes place. (Guest Machine) - In hardware virtualisation, the Guest machine is the virtual machine. (USB) – stand for Universal Serial Bus. (RJ) – stands for Registered Jack. (Windows 10) is one of the operating system that is primarily used in windows installation in CSS 4. (Client) - Client is any process that requests specific services from the server. (Windows Server 2008) – Windows Server 2008 is a robust operating system, including many highly desirable features for servers with a demand for maximum uptime and availability. (Domain Name System) - DNS stands for Domain Name System. (Server) - Server has the characteristic of being a powerful and expensive machine. Page 2 of 4 (Domain Controller) - Domain controller holds a copy of ADDS which also responds to requests for Active Directory information. (AMD) – is an acronym for Advanced Micro Devices. (Global Catalog) – Global Catalog is the system that allows users to find each other in an Active Directory. (Manage any computer on the network) – is not a benefit of Active Directory Domain Services. (ADDS) (Domain Name System) - DNS is the phonebook of the Internet and translates domain names to IP address so browsers can use internet resources. (DNS recursor) – Also known as recursive resolver is the first step in translating (resolving) human readable hostname into IP addresses. (DNS look-up) – DNS look-up refers to the request made to a DNS resolver. (File Server) – File server ensures the needed appropriate levels of access to users files through security settings. (Recursive Query) – Recursive query is a type of DNS queries wherein a DNS client requires that a server will respond to the client with either the requested resource record or an error message if the resolver can’t find the record. (Computer Systems Servicing) – CSS is an acronym for Computer Systems Servicing. (ren [current_name] [new_name]) - ren [current_name] [new_name] is the command used if you want to change a file name. (Ctrl + Alt) - Pressing Ctrl + Alt releases the mouse control, allowing the user to move it outside the BIOS setup screen, especially in virtual environments like VMware or VirtualBox. (Arrow Keys) - Arrow Keys (←, →) – Navigate between menus. Page 3 of 4 (+,-) - + (Plus) / - (Minus) → Increase or decrease values. (Power on Self-Test) - POST is a function of BIOS which tests the computer hardware and makes sure that no errors exist before loading the operating system. (BIOS drivers) – BIOS drivers function of the BIOS gives the computer basic operational control over the computer’s hardware. (F1) - F1 is the shortcut key if you want to ask for help or access help menu in the BIOS set- up. (F10) - Use F10 key or button in your keyboard in order to save and exit in the BIOS set-up, what is the shortcut key that you are going to use. F10 is also the most common shortcut key. (UP and DOWN Keys) - In most BIOS interfaces, you use the arrow keys (↑, ↓) to navigate through the options. (rd command) – rd command is the command you want to remove a directory in MS-DOS? (md command) - The md (make directory) command in MS-DOS is used to create a new directory. (2 Ghz) - 2 Ghz or faster is the recommended specification of processor for Windows Server 2008 by Microsoft. (2 GB RAM) - 2 GB of RAM or greater is the recommended memory in installing Windows server 2008 by Microsoft. (40 GB) - 40 GB or greater is the recommended available disk space in installing Windows Server 2008 by Microsoft. (Schema) - Schema is the set of users configured rules that govern objects and attributes in ADDS. (Iterative query) - Iterative query is type of DNS queries wherein a DNS client will allow a DNS server to return the best answer it can. Page 4 of 4
