Acquired: CONCIOUSNESS CULTURE IS SHARED Set of shared characteristics, beliefs, values and behaviors. For example, people in the South Korea dress in similar style and eat the same foods. CULTURE IS CUMULATIVE It builds on itself over time. “DEVELOPMENT” For example, new ideas, technologies and behaviors are passed down through generations. CULTURE CHANGES Process of altering a culture’s values, beliefs and behaviors. For example, technological innovation, globalization and acculturation. CULTURE IS DYNAMIC. Constantly changing and adapting new circumstances. For example, through the influence of others. CULTURE IS DIVERSE. Appreciating that society is made up of many different groups with different skills, talents and needs. CULTURE IS IDEATIONAL. Often it lays down an ideal pattern of behaviour that are expected to be followed by individuals so as to gain social acceptance from the people with the same culture. GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SOCIETY Presented by Ms. Cham Coronado SOCIETY IS ABSTRACT We may see the people but cannot see society or social structure, but only its external aspects. Social relationship is invisible. We can realize them but we cannot see or touch them. LIKENESS AND DIFFERENCES OF SOCIETY. Likeness is the sense of shared qualities among people, while difference is the sense of unlikeness or lack of identity. COOPERATION AND CONFLICT IN SOCIETY. COOPERATION (people working together toward a common goal), CONFLICT (one individual opposing the will of another). SOCIETY IS A PROCESS NOT A PRODUCT. Society is taken place over a period of time. Self produces ideas, customs, culture, beliefs and values. SOCIETY IS A SYSTEM OF STRATIFICATION. Ranking of people into groups based on their social standing. Factors: Wealth, income, race, education, ethnicity, gender and power GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS OF POLITICS Presented by Ms. Cham Coronado USE OR THREAT OF LEGAL FORCE When a legally authorized power is used to maintain order, enforce laws, or address threats. This can be done by law enforcement or community organizations. INTERACTIONS Social interactions in shaping individuals' understanding and behavior within political systems. INTERDEPENDENCE OF PARTS When the actions of one country or government affect the actions of other countries or governments. Interdependence can be economic, political, or both.
