We Communicate to meet our needs. 2. We Communicate to enchance or maintain our sense of self. 3. We Communicate to fulfill social obligations. 4. We communicate to develop relationship. LESSON 4: Principles of Communication 1. COMMUNICATION IS PURPOSIVE Different purpose , requires different strategies. Communication is consider successful if it has accomplished its purpose. 2. COMMUNICATION IS CONTINUOUS it Happens non-stop even silence communicates something. even non-verbal behaviour represents reactions to your environment and to the people around you (Verdeber,1999) be aware of the non-verbal behaviour 3. Practice is the key. LESSON 5: Communication Ethics All forms of communication involve ethical issues. Ethics Values that have been instilled in us knowingly or unknowingly accepted us and govern our actions. Berko, 1995 Ethics A speaker who uses language that degrades or injure human personality by exaggeration, pseudotruths, twisting words and name-calling is clearly acting unethically. SAMPLE ANSWER Communication Ethics according to Berko (1995), ethical communicators should: 1. Speaks with sincerity 2. Does not knowingly expose an audience to falsehood or halftruths that can cause significant harm 3. Does not premeditatedly alter the truth 4.
