(FALL DRYNESS DISEASE) CHIOU ZAO ChiouZaois an external infectious febrile disease caused by heat and dryness pathogens. The characteristics of this disease are the patient has body fluid deficiency & dryness symptoms (dry throat, dry nose, cough with scanty sputum and dry skin) at the initial Wei stage. It happens mostly in Fall season. Dryness is a very strong yang factor, and mostly affects lung organ. Even though it is a yang factor, but it dose not transmit very deep and not serious. The duration is short and easy to treat & recovery well. In western medicine, these diseases are diagnosed as “URI”, “Acute Bronchitis” in Fall. Introduction: 1.Very seasonal: only happen in Fall season 2.Clinical Pattern: Initial stage: exterior symptoms (Wei stage) and combine with dryness symptoms (dry mouth, nose, throat and lips) Main Organ affected: Lung. 3.Very superficial, most cases show Lung and Stomach Yin damage, very rare transmission to Lower Jiao, and most cases have good prognosis Key Diagnosis Points: A.Wei System SX: fever, mild aversion to wind, headache, some perspiration, cough, scanty sputum, dry mouth, dry throat, thirst, red tongue, white coat, and gigantic rapid pulse. TX : dispel dryness factor from exterior and moisten the lung by pungent sweet cold herbs RX: Sang Xing Tang (Mulberry Leaf and Apricot Kernel Decoction) A.
