CHAPTER 1 DEMOGRAPHY Dr.Norasikin Fabil DEMOGRAPHY IN MULTIMEDIA Introduction to Demography in Multimedia Demographic Profiles Demographic Data Social-demographic User Profiles Diagnoses of Multimedia Data Rich Multimedia Applications  DEFINITION DEMOGRAPHY Is: The study of populations and their effects on energy and the environment. “Demo” means “the people” “graphy” means “measurement”. Demography is the statistical study of human populations. It can be a very general science that can be applied to any kind of dynamic living population. It encompasses the study of the size, growth rate, density structure, and distribution of these populations, and spatial and/or temporal changes in them in response to birth, migration, aging and death.  DEMOGRAPHY IN MULTIMEDIA The term demography refers to characteristics of a population.. In Multimedia??? Demographic Multimedia can be applied to whole societies or to groups defined by criteria such as education, nationality, religion and ethnicity. But the study is focus on the societies or to group that are using the world of multimedia including web site, social network, courseware and others media. Method: infografphic Demographic Profiles. Developers typically combine several variables to define a demographic profiles. A demographic profile (often shortened to "a demographic") provides enough information about the typical member of this group to create a mental picture of this hypothetical aggregate. For example, a developer might speak of the single, female, middle-class, age 18 to 24, college educated demographic. Researchers/ developers typically have two objectives in this regard: 1) to determine what segments or subgroups exist in the overall population; 2) to create a clear and complete picture of the characteristics of a typical member of each of segments. Once these profiles are constructed, they can be used to do analysis on the target user and develop the design of products. One thing is the same for most social sites — college students, or those who have completed some college, represent the majority on social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Digg and Reddit. Among Facebook users, 57% have completed some college, and 24% have earned a bachelor's or master's degree. Although, people 45 and older make up 46% of Facebook users. Such multimedia data are generally stored as sequence of bytes of variable length. This data comprises of connected segments for easy reference.
