PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1 Ms. Eunice L. Montesor Teacher CONTENT ANALYSIS CONTENT ANALYSIS This procedure is used to categorize oral or spoken words, or a person's conduct or behavior, sorting, grouping, codification and tabulation. TWO LEVELS OF CONTENT ANALYSIS Descriptive discussion- specifies what was said and no further explanation or comments on how and why it was said should be done. EXAMPLE The data revealed that two out of four participants are experiencing difficulty in finishing school requirements during asynchronous activity. One of the participants also revealed that another difficulty involves lack of access to internet. While the other participant mentioned that the requirements are still manageable. TWO LEVELS OF CONTENT ANALYSIS Interpretative analysis- combines the specific responses EXAMPLE The data revealed that two out of four participants are experiencing difficulty in finishing school requirements during asynchronous activity. The students highlight that it is exhausting. Moreover, one of the participants also revealed that another difficulty involves lack of access to internet and their family cannot afford it. While the other participant mentioned that the requirements are still manageable. THEMATIC ANALYSIS THEMATIC ANALYSIS This is a form of pattern recognition within the data. You identify the themes after coding and categorizing the data. STEPS IN CONTENT ANALYSIS (BRAUN AND CLARKE, 2006) 1.Familiarize yourself 4.Review the themes with your data 5. Define and name 2.Generate initial the themes codes 6. Prepare the report 3.Search for themes CONTENT ANALYSIS THEMATIC ANALYSIS DIFFERENCES Content analysis focuses more on how frequently various categories appear or occur while thematic analysis is involved in identifying themes and analyzing each theme to build up the whole picture of the data. Thematic analysis can be more in-depth and broader in analysis and understanding. DIFFERENCES Content analysis can be used for both qualitative and quantitative data while thematic analysis is mainly used for qualitative research. Content analysis is focused on codes while thematic analysis is more focused on themes That In All Things God May Be Glorified!
