Content Analysis

  • A procedure used to categorize oral or written words, conduct, or behavior, sorting, grouping, codifying and tabulating.
  • There are two levels:
    • Descriptive discussion: Specifies what was said without further explanation or comments on how and why it was said.
    • Interpretative analysis: Combines specific responses and provide insights into why those responses were given.

Thematic Analysis

  • A form of pattern recognition within data.
  • Themes are identified after coding and categorizing data.
  • Steps in Thematic Analysis:
    • Familiarize yourself with your data.
    • Generate initial codes.
    • Search for themes.
    • Review the themes.
    • Define and name the themes.
    • Prepare your report.
