Content Analysis
- A procedure used to categorize oral or written words, conduct, or behavior, sorting, grouping, codifying and tabulating.
- There are two levels:
- Descriptive discussion: Specifies what was said without further explanation or comments on how and why it was said.
- Interpretative analysis: Combines specific responses and provide insights into why those responses were given.
Thematic Analysis
- A form of pattern recognition within data.
- Themes are identified after coding and categorizing data.
- Steps in Thematic Analysis:
- Familiarize yourself with your data.
- Generate initial codes.
- Search for themes.
- Review the themes.
- Define and name the themes.
- Prepare your report.
Differences between Content and Thematic Analysis
