CHAPTER 3 Relationship between Media and Technology DEFINITION AND TECHNOLOGY ROLE Maklumat/information – Information in its most restricted technical sense is an ordered sequence of symbols that record or transmit a message. signs, signals by waves. constraint, communication, control, data, form, instruction, knowledge, meaning. Proses/process Involves a flow of information from source to receiver/s Komunikasi/communication Refer to Chapter 1 Perkakasan/hardware Equipment that can be touched/held by hand Personal computer hardware are component devices which are typically installed into or peripheral to a computer case to create a personal computer upon which system software is installed including a firmware interface such as a BIOS and an operating system supporting application software that performs the operator's desired functions. Operating systems usually communicate with devices through hardware buses by using software device drivers. OS HARDWARE SOFTWARE DEVICES Pangkalan Data/Database an organized collection of data, typically in digital form. Sistem Rangkaian/Network Systems A set of tools including hardware, software and protocols for communication purposes. Industry 4.0 is a name given to the current trend of automation and data exchange in manufacturing technologies. It includes cyber- physical systems, the Internet of things, cloud computing and cognitive computing. Industry 4.0 is commonly referred to as the fourth industrial revolution. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industry_4.0 Automation - process or procedure is performed without human assistance CPS - mechanism that is controlled or monitored by computer-based algorithms. IoT - network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these things to connect, collect and exchange data, creating opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems. Cloud computing - shared pools of configurable computer system resources and higher-level services that can be rapidly provisioned with minimal management effort, often over the Internet. Cloud computing relies on sharing of resources to achieve coherence and economies of scale. Cognitive computing (CC) - technology platforms that, broadly speaking, are based on the scientific disciplines of artificial intelligence and signal processing. These platforms encompass machine learning, reasoning, natural language processing, speech recognition and vision, human–computer interaction, dialog and narrative generation. THE EVOLUTION OF MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY Important source:http://library.thinkquest.org/27629/themes/media/media.html 3.4 THE IMPORTANT OF TECHNOLOGY IN MEDIA In your opinion, does the media is growing rapidly as it is now without technology. Discuss. Pada pandangan anda, adakah media dapat berkembang dengan pesat seperti sekarang tanpa TEKNOLOGI? Bincangkan.
