GENERAL GUIDELINES GUIDELINES: SPECIAL OCCASION SPEECHES ◼ Be brief! (this is applicable in most instances; but “brief” is subjective – it will depend on the context/individuals, as you’ll see in the speech set videos) ◼ Focus on the individual or event ◼ Analyze your audience ◼ Use appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication for the occasion 2. SPEECHES OF INTRODUCTION Speech that introduces the main speaker to the audience. ◼ Brief ◼ Accurate ◼ Adapt to occasion/speaker/audience ◼ Anticipation and drama 2. SPEECHES OF PRESENTATION A speech that presents someone with a gift, award, or some other form of public recognition. 3. SPEECHES OF ACCEPTANCE A speech that gives thanks for a gift, an award, or some other form of public recognition. 4. COMMEMORATIVE SPEECHES A speech that honors a person, a group of people, an institution, or an idea. Commemorate: “to celebrate (an event, person, situation) by doing something” 4.
