influenced by body weight Binge-Eating Disorder Recurrent episodes of binge eating Episodes are associated with 3+ symptoms Eating much more rapidly than normal Eating until feeling uncomfortably full feeding or oral nutritional supplements Obsessive-Compulsive Disorders OCD: Presence of obsessions Recurrent/persistent thoughts, urges, or images that are intrusive and unwanted Attempts to suppress or ignore thoughts, urges, or images or to neutralize them Presence of compulsions Repetitive behaviors or mental acts in response to thoughts, urges, or images or according to rules Behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing anxiety or preventing a dreaded event Symptoms are time consuming or cause impairment BDD: Preoccupation with 1+ perceived defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or are slight to others Repetitive behaviors or mental acts related to concerns about physical appearance Hoarding Disorder Persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions, regardless of actual value Perceived need to save items and distress associated with saving them Difficulty discarding possessions results in accumulation of possessions that congest and clutter active living areas Sleep-Wake Disorders Insomnia: Dissatisfaction with sleep quantity or quality 1+ of difficulty initiating sleep, difficulty maintaining sleep, early-morning awakening with inability to return to sleep Symptoms occur 3+ days per week Episodes last for 3+ months Symptoms occur despite adequate opportunity to sleep HSD: Self-reported excessive sleepiness 1+ of recurrent periods of sleep or lapses into sleep within a day, prolonged sleep episode of 9+ hours that is non-restorative, difficulty being fully awake after abrupt awakening Symptoms occur 3+ days per week Episodes last for 3+ months CRSWD: Persistent or recurrent pattern of sleep disruption that is primarily due to alteration of circadian system Schizophrenia Spectrum & Psychotic Disorders Schizophrenia: Delusions Hallucinations Disorganized speech Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior Negative symptoms 2+ symptoms present per episode Episodes last 1 – 6+ months Schizophreniform easy fatigability, poor concentration, irritability, muscle tension, sleep disturbance Episodes last 6+ months PD: Recurrent, unexpected, and acute episodes of symptoms 4+ of palpitations, tachycardia, sweating, trembling, shortness of breath, choking sensation, chest pain, nausea, dizziness, light-headedness, chills or hot flashes, paresthesias, derealization, depersonalization, fear of losing control, fear of dying Symptoms reach peak in minutes 1+ month of worry about recurrent symptoms or maladaptive behavior related to symptoms Somatic Symptom Disorders SSD: Disproportionate and persistent thoughts about the seriousness of symptoms Persistently high level of anxiety about health or symptoms Excessive time and energy devoted to health or symptoms 1+ somatic symptoms that are distressing or result in significant disruption of daily life IAD: Preoccupation with having or acquiring a serious illness Somatic symptoms are not present or are mild in intensity Persistently high level of anxiety about health Performance of excessive health-related behaviors or maladaptive avoidance of health-related scenarios Symptoms present for 6+ months CD: 1+ symptoms of altered voluntary motor or sensory function Clinical findings showing evidence of incompatibility between symptom and recognized medical conditions FD: Falsification or physical or psychological signs or symptoms or induction of injury Presentation of self as ill, impaired, or injured Behaviors are present in the absence of external rewards Trauma & Stressor-Related Disorders PTSD: Direct experience of traumatic event(s) Witnessing in person traumatic event(s) as they occur to others Learning that traumatic event(s) occurred to a close family member or close friend Repeated or extreme exposure to Disorders Cluster A Paranoid Personality Disorder: Pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others Reads hidden demeaning or threatening meaning into benign remarks or events Holds grudges Schizoid Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and restricted range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships Chooses solitary activities Lacks close friends Schizotypal Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with reduced capacity for close relationships Ideas of reference, odd beliefs, or magical thinking Excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity Odd, eccentric, or peculiar behavior or appearance Lack of close friend Cluster B Antisocial Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of rights of others Symptoms present since age 15+ Failure to conform to social norms or display lawful behavior Deceitfulness Aggressiveness Lack of remorse Diagnosis of Conduct Disorder prior to age 15 Borderline Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects Avoidance of real or imagined abandonment Pattern of unstable and intense interpersonal relationships Impulsive behavior that is potentially self-damaging Chronic feelings of emptiness Histrionic Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking behavior Often displays inappropriately sexual or provocative behavior Shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion Considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy Has inflated sense of self-importance Holds belief that he/she is “special” and important Has a sense of entitlement and is exploitative Cluster C Avoidant Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation Avoids occupational activities that involve significant interpersonal contact because of fears of criticism Is unwilling to get involved with people unless certain of being liked Is inhibited in new interpersonal situations because of feelings of inadequacy Dependent Personality Disorder: Pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of separation Has difficulty making everyday decisions without an excessive amount of advice and reassurance from others Goes to excessive lengths to obtain nurturance and support from others Feels uncomfortable or helpless when alone because of exaggerated fears of being unable to care for him/herself Urgently seeks another relationship as source of care and support when close relationship ends Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of obsession with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control Preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of other pursuits or relationships Shows rigidity and stubbornness Bipolar Disorder BPD I: 1+ manic episodes characterized by inflated self-esteem or grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, pressured speech, flight of ideas, distractibility, increase in goal-directed activity, high-risk behavior Episode last 1+ week May involve hypomanic or major depressive episodes Symptoms are severe enough to cause significant impairment in functioning BPD II: 1+ hypomanic episodes characterized by inflated self-esteem or grandiosity, decreased need for sleep, pressured speech, flight of ideas, distractibility, increase in goal-directed activity, high-risk behavior Episode last 4+ days Symptoms are severe enough to cause changes in functioning but not significant impairment Dissociative Disorders DID: Disruption of identity characterized by 2+ distinct personality states Symptoms involve marked change in sense of self accompanied by changes in affect, behavior, consciousness, memory, perception, cognition, sensory motor functioning Episodes result in recurrent gaps in memory including loss of important personal information DPDR: Episodes of unreality, detachment, being an outside observer with respect to one’s thoughts or feelings/sensations/body/actions, distorted sense of time, unreal or absent self, emotional/physical numbing Episodes of unreality or detachment with respect to surroundings Disruptive, Impulse Control, & Conduct Disorders ODD: Pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, or vindictiveness Symptoms include often losing temper, often being touchy or irritable, often being angry or resentful, often argues with authority figures, often actively defies or refuses to comply with rules, often deliberately annoys others, often blames others for mistakes, displays spite or vindictiveness 4+ symptoms present lasting 6+ months Symptoms are present with 1+ individual who is not a sibling CD: Repetitive or persistent pattern of behavior in which basic rights of others or societal rules are violated Symptoms include bullying, threats, intimidation, initiation of physical fights, use of weapon that may cause serious physical harm, physical cruelty to people or animals, robbery with or without confronting a victim, sexual assault, deliberate fire-setting, destruction of property, trespassing, cons, staying out past curfew, running away from home, truancy 3+ symptoms present lasting 6+ months IED: Recurrent behavioral outbursts representing failure to control aggressive impulses Verbal or physical aggression toward property, animals, or people that does not result in destruction or injury 2+ times/week for 3+ months 3+ behavioral outbursts that do involve damage, destruction, or injury within 12-month period
