distrust and suspiciousness of others Reads hidden demeaning or threatening meaning into benign remarks or events Holds grudges Schizoid Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and restricted range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships Chooses solitary activities Lacks close friends Schizotypal Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with reduced capacity for close relationships Ideas of reference, odd beliefs, or magical thinking Excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity Odd, eccentric, or peculiar behavior or appearance Lack of close friend Cluster B Antisocial Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of rights of others Symptoms present since age 15+ Failure to conform to social norms or display lawful behavior Deceitfulness Aggressiveness Lack of remorse Diagnosis of Conduct Disorder prior to age 15 Borderline Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affects Avoidance of real or imagined pattern of excessive emotionality and attention-seeking behavior Often displays inappropriately sexual or provocative behavior Shows self-dramatization, theatricality, and exaggerated expression of emotion Considers relationships to be more intimate than they actually are Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy Has inflated sense of self-importance Holds belief that he/she is “special” and important Has a sense of entitlement and is exploitative Cluster C Avoidant Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation Avoids occupational activities that involve significant interpersonal contact because of fears of criticism Is unwilling to get involved with people unless certain of being liked Is inhibited in new interpersonal situations because of feelings of inadequacy Dependent Personality Disorder: Pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of that leads to submissive and clinging behavior and fears of separation Has difficulty making everyday decisions without an excessive amount of advice and reassurance from others Goes to excessive lengths to obtain nurturance and support from others Feels uncomfortable or helpless when alone because of exaggerated fears of being unable to care for him/herself Urgently seeks another relationship as source of care and support when close relationship ends Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder: Pervasive pattern of obsession with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control Preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost Is excessively devoted to work and productivity to the exclusion of other pursuits or relationships Shows rigidity and stubbornness Dissociative Disorders DID: Disruption of identity characterized by 2+ distinct personality states Symptoms involve marked change in sense of self accompanied by changes in affect, behavior, consciousness, memory, perception, cognition, sensory motor functioning Episodes result in recurrent gaps in memory including loss of important personal information DPDR: Episodes of unreality, detachment, being an outside observer with respect to one’s thoughts or feelings/sensations/body/actions, distorted sense of time, unreal or absent self, emotional/physical numbing Episodes of unreality or detachment with respect to surroundings Disruptive, Impulse Control, & Conduct Disorders ODD: Pattern of angry/irritable mood, argumentative/defiant behavior, or vindictiveness Symptoms include often losing temper, often being touchy or irritable, often being angry or resentful, often argues with authority figures, often actively defies or refuses to comply with rules, often deliberately annoys others, often blames others for mistakes, displays spite or vindictiveness 4+ symptoms present lasting 6+ months Symptoms are present with 1+ individual who is not a sibling CD: Repetitive or persistent pattern of behavior in which basic rights of others or societal rules are violated Symptoms include bullying, threats, intimidation, initiation of physical fights, use of weapon that may cause serious physical harm, physical cruelty to people or animals, robbery with or without confronting a victim, sexual assault, deliberate fire-setting, destruction of property, trespassing, cons, staying out past curfew, running away from home, truancy 3+ symptoms present lasting 6+ months IED: Recurrent behavioral outbursts representing failure to control aggressive impulses Verbal or physical aggression toward property, animals, or people that does not result in destruction or injury 2+ times/week for 3+ months 3+ behavioral outbursts that do involve damage, destruction, or injury within 12-month period
