Institute biosecurity measures. 30 MATCH YOUR PRODUCTION GOAL Production goal may be: – Raising piglets. – Fattening weaners. – Specific pork attributes (e.g. 80kg in six months) 31 CONSTRAINTS TO PIG PRODUCTION Prejudices Religion barriers Inadequate feed –Competition with man 32 CONSTRAINTS TO PIG PRODUCTION Poor housing Diseases and pests Reproductive wastage Inadequate healthcare 33 REMEDIES TO CONSTRAINTS Prejudices – Education. Religion – Proper choice of site. Inadequate feed – Cheaper local alternatives. Diseases – STRICT biosecurity measures. -Vaccination.
