Academic Awards Medals and Prizes Medals and prizes are awarded to NTU students to reward outstanding academic and extra- curricular achievements. Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal The Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medals are awarded from the interest generated from net proceeds from the sale of a CD-ROM on the then Senior Minister, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Bearing prominence in the name of the award, the prestigious gold medals are awarded to the most outstanding students who are first in general proficiency throughout their studies and who have obtained a First Class Honours in each Bachelor's degree programme. Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award NTU initiated the "University Scholars Award" with the graduating class of 2007. In 2010, the University Scholars Award was renamed Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award in recognition of Mr Koh Boon Hwee's personal gift of $2.5 million to the University. Mr Koh is Chairman of NTU's Board of Trustees. Together with the Singapore Government's dollar-for-dollar matching, the gift established a $5 million endowment fund that will support the award. The Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award recognizes the achievement of graduating students for the undergraduate programmes, while honouring teachers and faculty members who have been an inspiration to them. A cash grant is set up in the name of each teacher honoured, who in turn nominates a prospective undergraduate student to receive the grant on admission into NTU. The University aims to perpetuate the virtuous cycle of honouring the hard work of teachers in producing well-rounded student achievers. Other Awards and Prizes Gold Medal Gold medals are awarded to outstanding or top students from the graduating cohort in each programme or specialisation, as defined by the donors. Book Prize Book prizes are awarded to outstanding or top students in a specified course or courses of study, as defined by the donors, and are given in the form of cash prize. Dean's List The Dean’s List is awarded to deserving top-performing undergraduate students on a yearly basis. The top 5% of the cohort, subject to attaining a minimum YGPA of 4.50 and the specified AU of graded courses by curriculum type taken in NTU in the academic year, is eligible for the Dean’s List. Full-time single degree students have to complete at least 15 AU of graded courses, while part-time single degree students have to complete at least 9 AU of graded courses. Double-degree students have to complete a total of 15 AU of discrete graded Classification: Restricted courses from both degrees, and 9 AU of graded courses from each degree. In addition to the criteria mentioned above, final year students must attain at least an Honours (Distinction) degree in order to be considered for the Dean’s List. See details in table below.
